Any Update On Mr. Green Book/DVD Date?

I've previewed another HVX200 instructional DVD, and was wondering if Barry might indicate, if he can, a shipping date for the book/DVD.

Hope it's going well, and hope we might see it relatively soon.

Thanks and best regards

David S. This is NOT aimed directly at you, so please don't take offense.

I hate to sound like a dick, but can't you guys just let the man be?

Every week I see a "Barry, where is the book?" thread.

I don't think its going to make it come out any faster. I know you all realize he is a busy guy, and the book will be released...but damn, I'm almost annoyed for him.

Have some patience and it will arrive whenever it arrives. Til then, get out there and test with own HVXs. See what you can teach yourselves.

I understand what you are saying. And I certainly don't take any offense.

But I do disagree with you. At least to me, writing a few words saying it's coming along isn't a huge request.

And that's all I asked. Last time he posted, he said they were either out of proof reading, or at the printer. Just asking if there is any further info.

take care

Held up due to NAB -- I wanted to make sure that the info in there was actually accurate, and not out-of-date the first day it was printed! So it's 99.99999% complete, I should finish the final draft today, then incorporate a little artwork -- so it's very, very close. Then it goes to the printer...

thanks Barry.

I won't bother you again . . . .

. . . . until the next time.

Thanks for the update, as well as for all the great info I'm sure will be in the book.

I was just reading through this months issue of Studio Monthly, and in your article on P2 in there they mention that your HVX book has been out since February. You might want to talk to the editor- I'm sure there are other dissapointed people who were wishing it was out like the article said. (I know I was, but then I remembered that I had not seen anything on DVXuser about the book being available, and thought that it must be a mistake - someone in the editing department didn't check their facts.... oh well. Still a good mag, and I'm looking forward to reading your book as well.)

Yeah, I just jumped on the boards to find it, only to learn it's not out yet. GGGrrrr....

The first one got me up and running on my DVX100a really fast, I loved it. I'd love to have this for the HVX200, also!

But don't rush it, make it good instead!

Barry, is the SD card + DVD idea still up?

DVD is out, still trying to figure if I can make it happen as an SD card, but more than likely it'll be a CD with information that you can copy to your own SD card.

Barry - there is a intersting review on Amazon about your DVX book. The guy thought your book was worthwhile and worth owning, but felt he got ripped off by the DVD thinking it didn't add to the value of the purchase. While I am not a DVX user/owner, so I don't know if it did or did not add any value, but it got me thinking. It made me wonder what you had in store in comparison to what was on the DVX DVD? I have access to the DVX book/DVD, so it would be cool to know if it's a good preview of what is coming, or if I should just stay away from it and wait. :)

Thanks, Barry.

The DVD with the DVX is fairly introductory, and explains the concepts that people seem to have so much trouble grasping. It lays it out from start to finish in a way that a lot of people seem very happy with -- I've gotten tons of great reviews, and that particular DVD has won Aurora, Aegis, Videographer and Accolade awards. That one guy is obviously more advanced than the DVD was aimed for, and hey -- that's fine. The product is designed to appeal to users of all levels; he was more advanced than the DVD aims for, but still found what he needed in the book portion.

The DVX DVD was designed to address the common questions that I saw popping up on this board week after week, month after month, for a couple of years in a row. Obviously many of those questions were from first-timers, and were of an elementary nature. So that's what the DVD addresses.

With The HVX Book, it's everything the DVX Book was, and a whole lot more. A lot more depth, a lot more subjects, and more thorough and detailed explanations. It is my feeling that the HVX user is more likely to be an advanced user than the DVX buyer was, and so the kind of elements on the DVX DVD wouldn't likely apply to the HVX buyer -- a simlar DVD on that same level would probably be not as valuable. That, plus the enormously more expensive printing costs of the HVX Book (lots and lots of color photos, spiral binding, and 50% larger than the DVX Book etc) led me to conclude that a comparable DVD would just be overkill and would unnecessarily drive up the price, since most buyers would probably already know the info on the DVD already anyway.

Instead I'm including a CD with scene files and with the raw camera-original pictures that are printed in the book... CMYK printing can't really reproduce the pictures as accurately as I'd prefer, so I'm including the originals so you can really see what the pictures are illustrating. There are 24 scene files being included, which add presets for extreme performance (such as a scene file for lowest noise, one for highest detail, one for maximum dynamic range, one for maximum image contrast, and one for low light shooting circumstances), and 18 scene files for various movie looks (including things like a scene file for Day-For-Night shooting, one for sort of emulating the skip-bleach process, and a whole bunch for various film looks).

If you want a preview of what the HVX Book will be like, then yes the DVX Book would give you a good head start. It's organized similarly, and a lot of the features are shared between the DVX and the HVX. But the HVX Book goes into a lot more detail on just about everything, and there are whole new sections devoted to HVX-specific features that obviously the DVX Book wouldn't even address.

dont worry.. me and Barry are working on a dvd that should compliment the book very well, albiet seperate.

I was afraid to ask because THE BOOK has a new thread everyday. ;)

Thanks for the details! I'm looking forward to the release.
