New version of Final Cut

That's supposedly correct. It allows you to remove the pulldown on import. Just like the DVX.

Should I bother? I don't plan on getting an Intel Mac anytime soon. Aren't we getting another major update at NAB though? And will the upgrade to FCP6 be cheaper if I get this crossgrade is all I wanna know.

It costs 50 bucks to crossgrade to 5.1
It positions well for the upgrade to 6 when it
comes out. Plus I am shooting material in 1080 24pA
for some projects and the 5.1 will be just in time.

I'm guessing 5.5. Apple upgrades usually a full point every other year

4.5 was a free download though. I'm thinking out next update will be free as well and that the $50 for the crossgrade is for the phsyical discs, not to mention an intel build.

As I understand it, there were so many basic code changes that Apple could not offer 5.1 as a download. According to the ReadMe, there are other fixes besides Universal Binary compatibility. I had not intended on cross-grading until I saw that document and at that point sent off my original disks with great trepidation and with delivery confirmation. Just received email from Apple that 5.1 is in the mail-- media mail, at that. Can't even spring for 1st class postage. Who knows what NAB will bring.

I have FCP 5.1 now and it still doesn't let me import 1080 24pa as 24 fps...it comes in as 29.97....anyone know why?

thanks,
ben

Ben7281, does FCP 5.1 have 1080 24p timeline presets in Easy Setup? Or just 1080 60i and 1080 50i? What I've been reading has confused me. I know it doesn't import properly and people are still using Cinema Tools, but I want to know if it even has the right timelines.

Thanks
