Noise in Lock Downed Footage of Pine Trees

its hard to see noise on a still like this.. can you upload like 5 seconds?

Maybe I'm crazy, but from my experience, a still frame is where you see the MOST noise, and quite frankly, I'm not really seeing it here. The image is not really sharp (focus?) and the contrast is very flat (settings?), but I'm not seeing a lot of noise.

If you shoot garbage, you get garbage, right ?

John:

Thanks for the nice comment.

This is the background of the baseball field.

There is noise in the trees.

That's all I posted. We didn't use this shot because of the nose.

This is noise in other shots as well.

But again, thanks for the constructive comment.

best regards

No exposure, no subject matter, no focus ... levels all whacky ....

It was focused John.

We shot some trees.

Then we slowly pulled back to the ball field, as the client requested.

Partially for a test.

In the actual clip, there is noise.

I don't care, because alot of everything else looks great.

But don't shoot the messenger.

Anyway, I was just asking for some feedback, not a critique of the shot.

Thanks for all the kind assistance.

best regards

Sent you a PM offering to burn a CD and send it to you for eval.

Or Jan for that matter.

I'm looking for some ideas, not criticism of a client requested shot.

That's all.

It's only about 160 megabytes

Darwinandpaine, can you post a full rez version (DVCPROHD not H264) of your commercial? Then we could do some noise comparisons. Otherwise i dont see how it has any bearing on this thread.

i dont know.....the grab really does'nt look all that hot, and it really does'nt look in focus and YES the way you compose your shot, your setting you use, the lighting etc. etc. will TOTALLY effect the final output.

these guys are trying to help you, that's why they are eager to see some footage, then maybe they can give you there "2 bits"

upload some footage, fire it over to Jarred like he offered and he'll help you, but dude c'mon throw a bone here

I'm not baggin on you DavidS. It's just another Grab that does no justice for any camera and the noise is missing in my eyes.

But I'm eager to see it ! If I could host it I would.

Sorry. I withdraw the link as having any bearing.

It's really hard to evaluate this, butrwhat i think everyone here is saying is that if you have a darkish shot with very low contrast and not alot of sharp defination then the noise of any camera will become painfully obvious. Even 35mm. On a 1/3" " chip this will no doubt be worse. If the rest of shot when you zoomed out to the ball field was great just consider that a learning experience with the camera.
It does have some noise issues but at this point it comes with the territory on a $5000 HD camera. If it was bad on a ball field in full sun then I would start to worry.

Sorry John . . . I'm just a little frustrated.

I be happy to send a CD to anyone who wants to host it.

150 megabytes.

It's not like I'm going shoot a bunch of pine trees.

David--I really don't think you have anything to apologize for. I also found John Hudson's post tactless and needlessly combative.
