*Canopus*
“We have committed to support P2 format continuously after the merger of Thomson/ GrassValley group.” said Hiro Yamada, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Canopus. “Edius Broadcast is already supported all possible format in HVX200-60hz model. The 720/25p and 50p editing will be available at the end of June, which brings tremendous benefit for customer to get seamless workflow by EDIUS editing solution.”

* Avid *
"The AG-HVX200 is a driving force behind tapeless and HD production," said Chas Smith, vice president and general manager for Avid's Video division. "Many European broadcasters are beginning to standardize on 720/50p, and Avid has fully embraced this movement. The AG-HVX200 will give broadcasters a powerful tool to acquire media in this format, and over the course of 2006, we expect to deliver a range of offerings that support editing 720p/50 media, while also maintaining our ongoing support of native MXF-based P2 media."

* Apple *
“Since its release in North America, we have seen tremendous success with the AG-HVX200 and Final Cut Studio, a combination that is changing the economics of professional HD Production,” said Rob Schoeben, Apples vice president of Applications Marketing. “The 1080i50 support in Final Cut Pro 5 will allow the same thing to happen in Europe, China and other 50hz regions of the world.”

*FOCUS *
“We are seeing a strong demand for our FireStore FS-100 DVCPRO HD portable disk recorder, developed jointly with Panasonic,” said Michael Conway, senior vice president of business development and strategy at Focus Enhancements. “The FS-100 allows users to record 90 minutes of DVCPRO HD material with 1080i50 or 720p50. DVCPRO HD customers requiring long duration productions will benefit from the high capacity of the FS-100 and its compatibility with P2 HD-capable NLE’s from Apple, Avid and Canopus. The FS-100 is expected to start shipping at the end of April”

What a load of waffle. Where is the 720P support, Apple?
Not good enough.

1080i50 and 1080i25p works somewhat in Final Cut Pro now, just make the settings manually. - But I would like to hear apple state that they will FULLY support the HVX-200, I don't actually want to shoot 1080, I'm wanting to do 720/25p

Is it correct that there is actually no NLE effectively supporting 720/25p or 720/25pN? I have EDIUS Broadcast and will get my HVX200E by mid of next week. According to the comment on the Panasonic website I'll have to wait at least until end of June. Grumble grumble.........

Well thank god for the Intel MacBook and Raylight.
I'm now using Raylight and ProCoder in WinXP to convert my 720p25 footage to 720p25 that FCP understands.

Too bad it would cost me an extra $199 to do so..

Give us a tutorial,,,
I have Raylight as well and many PAL shooters have
expressed interest in submitting footage to our site.
We have Edius & FCP and will get what ever we
need to support all shooters!
Thanks

This is nothing to be proud of, we want FULL HVX support, we invested in Apple hardware and software and training, we want to continue working with FCP. Not 1080i/50 but 720p/50 and 720pn/25. And no 'tricks' so you can handle 1080 25p without knowing if the timing is 'ríght'.

We like Apple and want to continue invest in it, so give us the import tools to work with the PAL HVX200.

Where is the news that FCP won't support 720P 25 until June? I looked on the panasonic website but couldn't find it.
Thanks

I was talking about EDIUS. Never saw any dates concerning FCP.

Please can someone suggest a way to convert footage shot at 720/25pn into something I can use. I have one really rather important clip which I stupidly shot in an excited state not realising that the material would be useless for 2 months... HELP PLEASE>!

Footage is for a camera track. I thought it good idea to shoot 720/25pn with variable frame rate set to 50fps and shutter at 1000th to create smooth crisp slow motion for my tracking man to work on... I need to give him an image sequence asap. Otherwise its back to BRADFORD UK for Squint. I just cant believe they can sell a camera so early.

Well, imagine then if you were in a JVC buyer's shoes. JVC put the HD1 and HD10 on the market and people had to wait TWO YEARS before FCP supported it, and it was another few months before Avid supported it. The HD100 has been on the market in Europe for 10 months and there's no 24P support in FCP or Avid yet (although FCP's finally going to get around to it soon). The XLH1 has been available for about five months and there's no 24F support yet either (although FCP is going to do it soon).

So the fact that you can go today to www.dvfilm.com/raylight and download an application that lets you use your HVX 720/25p footage should make you realize that the situation is far better for the HVX than it was for any of the others.

If you'd bought a Sony FX1, you would have waited five MONTHS for support. With the HVX there's full US/NTSC support available the first day, and European support is getting there and it hasn't even been available for one month yet.

I know it's not ideal, but at least it's way better integrated than any HDV alternative has been.

Well we are not talking about Sony or JVC here, also not about 24P ( film cadence) we are talking about 25p. That is like 30P for you in the US. It is the normal TV framerate here in PAL world, nothing special.

HDV editing was (is) problematic for its long GOP stream, not every frame is editable. The editing companies did worked that out. The DVX200 720p/25 is a 'normal' stream, every frame is editable, that is the strength of the DVCPRO HD codec!

In that vision (now PAL HVX owners can not use the HD editing or slow motion functionality or create a reel to show customers their work and the 'new' HD possibilities) the search for a way to work with this cam i.e. edit it , is understandable.

Is there someone who can tell me why the DVCPRO HD codec for PAL is not implemented already? What is holding Apple down, why is there no announcement?

Am I right with my understanding that implementing the DVCPRO codec is more straight forward than a HDV- intermediate codec?

I wholeheartedly agree with you xray. There's nothing special about 25P. It's just a normal feature that should have been integrated by FCP.

If Apple want the same success in Europe as regards HVX/FCP combinations they'll have to get their act together on 720P support in Pal

I'll say that again because they seem to be a bit hard of hearing...

NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :furious3:

Can somebody invent a very believable excuse for Panny for not making their own quicktime codecs for hvx to be used in every NLE which can understand quicktime?
Or p2 Viewer with qt-export (also for Os X).
What here is so hard to understand? For not providing any software for using the footage, Panny has sunk their hvx sales in Europe. Where's the business sense?
Same place than customer service/support for Europe?
Variable framerates are still just a dream for Europeans...

The conversion is a two step process:

1. Create .avi containers of the .MXF files using Raymaker. I copy Raymaker to the video folder of the P2 card backup folder and execute it from here. Raymaker will automatically search the Audio folder for audio files and add them accordingly.

2. Use Procoder to batch convert the avi files into Quicktime files. I used the Photo Jpeg codec at 75% in 960x720 for great looking footage that supports Acclerated effects in FCP if I use a matching timeline.
I have created a droplet so I just drop the AVI's onto the droplet and Procoder will automatically convert the files and drop them to a network shared FAT 32 volume. Be sure that the Raylight codec is set to max quality in the raycontrol preference window. Speed is about 80% realtime.
If you have DVCPRO Hd QT codecs installed in XP you could transcode to either 720p60 codec at 25 fps or upscale to 1080p25.

It would be a bit better if I could use Raylight. I am mac based with FCP, but use a PC for normal daily work. So I downloaded Raylight demo and tried it out. It wont run on my two year old PC, although its still pretty good spec. AMD processor and Raylight wont run!

RAYLIGHT did the trick although switching platforms was a Sunday journey of discovery. Hey, PCs are pretty cool. Thank you Anders. Although 25p conversion seems to end up with films with frame rate of 24.97. Does that actually matter? Lets keep the pressure on FCP people to get their stuff together.

I think it is unacceptable to work with. We invested in Apple soft- and hardware, tools, training and 'mojo'. Our PC is nice for the internet, and has a 2G AMD processor. The editing proces and file naming needs to be done within the Apple surrounding. We need to imbed the HVX in a professional workproces.
