4:4:4 and 4:2:2

i probably just misunderstood, but why does the red website say you can shoot 4:4:4 in 4k and 2k modes, but only 4:2:2 in 1080 and 720?

and just so I'm clear, is the HVX 4:2:2? What is the DVX?

Good question. That wouldn't make sense, because you might need 4:4:4 for comps but not have a capture device that can handle 2K and up.

Granted, 2K isn't a HUGE increase from 1920 x 1080 (28%), but if you only need 720P for a particular project, why can't you have 4:4:4? This limitation would be a downer.

Look at the RED/DVX brochure posted here somewhere...
If it's correct, 4:4:4 RGB is possible at 1080p. Not at 720p, though.

Specs may change at any time....

With a camera like this, things get complex. 4k is raw, so it's not 4 anything, it's raw, not video so you can't define it in those terms. 2k could also be raw, or could be RGB, and hence would have to be 4:4:4.

As for 1080p and 720p, no reason why they could not be RGB 4:4:4, but we're still figuring out all the details on the codec.

Yes, it's also refreshing to have people who MAKE cameras talk and ask/answer questions to people who BUY cameras!!!

BTW, 4K RAW 24fps what bitrate does it have??

It is though, isn't it. I'm new to the board, came for the RED forum specifically - and I am downright amazed at the level of participation by the RED team. Not to get too off-topic...
