Is this possible ?
Once you`ve edited a 720p 24pn project in FCP and then write it back to
a P2 card ? Without a quality loss .

As far as i know canopus edius is the best right now at re-wrapping video with an MXF. You cant do this to the camera though.. you need a card reader or your laptop, as the firewire is not active in PN mode.

By write it back, if you mean copy it to a p2 card, then FCP does not support it currently.

Love to see it in FCP 5.5

If I understand the question correctly, the answer should be YES, maybe. You should be able to playback the timeline into the camera and record it, per p. 87 of the manual. However, I'm not sure if FCP can play back 24PN with pulldown added (I think it can), and it doesn't seem like the camera will take it as 24PN, only as 24P... someone should test all the details. But the concept of playing the tmeline back to a P2 card is there...

I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS YET, BUT I FOUND THIS INFO ON THE WEB:

Exporting from FCP to P2 Card

1. Carefully identify your sequence settings in FCP, ie 720p/60.

2. Match those settings in the cam using the camera mode, number 5, recording set up.

3. Attach cam via firewire, then turn it on, and launch FCP.

4. Switch to VCR mode.

5. Press audio dub button to go to full screen

6. Press menu, then recording set up (no. 1)

7. 1394 TC REGEN - On
1394 UB REGEN - On
TC MODE - DF
TC PRESET -----
UB MODE - FRM RATE
UB PRESET ----
1394 IN PRESET - OFF

8. Render sequence.

9. Print to video command

10. At prompt, simultaneously pus rec/grey button under handle

11. Use the stop command on remote to stop

LET US KNOW IF IT WORKS.

It works, I'm using it to make a new footage collage for the booth at NAB (including some KILLER new wolves and cougar footage from Kevin Railsback!)

But you don't have to use the stop on the remote, the stop on the camera works fine.

Yes it does, I do it all the time. You have to press the stop button. I think in another post you mentioned pressing the center button -- that's not stop, that's the "set" button. Press the stop button on the camera and it will stop recording. No need to use the remote.

I thought that was the stop button.

So you push the record and grey button on the top to start, then the RED RECORD STOP button, which is by the power switch to stop

Is that correct

The stop button is the same as the "down" menu button... BELOW the "select" button. Marked with the little square "stop" icon.

Indeed, the manual seems to assume knowledge of button icons, and calls these all "Operation buttons" as a whole, with no breakdown, eh?

I haven't recorded back to P2 myself, but I'll toss in that when using interval recording, you use the red "Record" thumb button to start recording, but can only "Stop" with the stop button on top. A bit of bad interface design, I'm afraid... Oh, I can imagine the justification, sorta, being as there's two levels of pause involved, and the red button is more a rec/pause button than a rec/stop button... but general operation is thumb-push to start, thumb-push to stop, but in interval mode starting and stopping are done in completely different ways.

Anyway, it's a real complicated camera with a complicated interface. Hopefully it'll get smoothed out in the future...

Now that's interesting.

Because the manual identifies the STOP button as the red button by the on off switch.

I am wondering which is it

you know...they do have video to MXF file conversion programs, so one you convert, you can just drag and drop like a harddrive. you dont have to export live like you do like exporting to tape.
