artsy fake weather tests

hey inspire, i did the clips in Particle Illusion 3 and FCP (Final Cut Pro)
Particle Illusion is a stand-alone particle generator. I think you can export alpha channel effects, or as i did, export onto a black background to lumakey later and also directly added the effects to my clips in PI3 interface.

Particle Illusion is available on Mac and PC.

ok.... i deff need to start playin w particle illusion more... sweet stuff man. so was that green screened and then replaced background and foreground?

yeah, in the first clip. i used to have a cool ghetto posterboard greenscreen (but no space to use it well) - I had to destroy it when i moved. now i just have a crappy wrinkly sheet. it'll be better after i iron it and add some grommets on the edges.

i added rain to the background, then added my subject over that, added, some rain bouncing off the shoulders in the close shot, and then added bigger more translucent rain over top of it all. if i were doing it more seriously, i'd probably make more rain but more translucent, with more bounce. i definately want to do a whole scene/s in the rain, and i'm working on a noir script that it might work for.

that right there is some cool looking shots. very very cool.

im really liking how green screen can give us the locations...but when will be able to rid ourselves of the actors? :costumed-smiley-047

Great work!
Looks like I will be spending some late nights with particle Illusions 3 in the months to come.

ok - that was awesome! another tool i'm going to get addicted to! i will check it out. can't wait to see more.

I'm just getting started with both my dvx and particle illusion. You think maybe if it isn't too much trouble you could write a brief tutorial on how to replicate these weather effects over video for newbies like myself? When you have the spare time, of course.

thanks for the kind words everyone, it makes me more comfortable in moving ahead in my experimentation. as far as AE, mrpunch, I really don't know much about that app (unfortunately ;o( ), so I don't know how it would compare in time and effort to replicate the result. For moving multiple layers and filters and key effects and other such things I usually do in FCP cuz I'm mentally challenged in AE. it is pretty simple to add and adjust effects layers and such in Particle Illusion 3 and it's got some interesting preset effects, it also plays back and renders close to real time, maybe 1/2 or 2/5 speed. Maybe faster, but i got an ANCIENT G4 lol.
