HVX-200 Purchase Guidance Q& A

I have been researching a place to purchase my HVX-200 and have called about 6 places so far. The best deal I have found is Broadway Photo in New York which has mixed reviews.

Facts:
* They have unbeatable low pricing ($4580) + shipping
* They claim to have sell New Factory seal USA Warranty Models
* They advertise shipping with all the basic accessories
* They will try to upsell you and I have heard they rip some people off.

The big question is what are other fellow DVX/HVX users experience? And, where would you recommend going for the best deal on the basic HVX-200 package?

I got mine from Full Compass (www.fullcompass.com). Their prices were good and they were very nice to work with --- no upselling hassles, etc... Those New York stores scare me, and I hate the way they treat people.

Is Broadway an authorized Panasonic HVX200 retailer?

DO NOT BUY FROM BROADWAY PHOTO!!

They are not authorized, and in the end they will screw you over majorly.

re: broadway video

a word of polite caution - just read some buyer reviews around the internet about them - this will help you make up your mind

penny wise and pound foolish means something in this case....

It makes a lot of sense when spending this kind of money to go with a reputable dealer who can back up your purchase.

here is a short list of reliable vendors:

Abelcine.com
Videosmith.com
lerro.com

Not really, no. More like "Claims"

* They have unbeatable low pricing ($4580) + shipping
But this is a lie. There is no way on earth they will actually sell you that product at that price.

* They claim to have sell New Factory seal USA Warranty Models
This is almost unquestionably a lie. They are not an authorized dealer and cannot buy product from Panasonic.

* They advertise shipping with all the basic accessories
And yet, when you actually try to order it, be prepared for some very unpleasant surprises.

* They will try to upsell you and I have heard they rip some people off.
Read resellerratings.com's reviews and then see what you think.

The very lowest you'll find an HVX for anywhere, from a reputable dealer, is around $5300 or so, usually $5400-$5600. Any lower than that and you're probably being scammed or bait-and-switched. Anyone advertising it for $4580 is flat-out lying. There is no conceivable way that they will sell you a complete, new, US-authorized unit at anywhere near that price.

Barry,

Thanks for the response. My facts in reference where based in my phone and web research which were apparent claims from the NY hustlers. So on a positive note: "Where can I get the best deal on the HVX? I am buying an M2, tripod, and one P2 card so whith this much money, I definitely seek to save some money if possible.
I am certain other users here will appreciate any suggestions you make. You stated, "The very lowest you'll find an HVX for anywhere, from a reputable dealer, is around $5300 or so...", could you please provide a name or reference?

Thanks again for providing this useful purchase information for myself and all other soon to be HVX users here.

The lowest I've seen it was $5300 from www.lerro.com. I believe DVXUser sponsor Specialized Communications is offering it at $5399 right now, but I'm not certain. I think www.roscor.com was selling them for $5374.

Call around though, and we have other excellent dealers participating on these boards, like ProMedia in Tennessee and EVS in Glendale, and of course you should contact Abel Cine Tech, which Jarred has designated as the new home of the DVXUser discount.

Broadway Photo will be selling you a gray market product and the worst part is you will not realize it until it is too late and you need your warranty.

Jan

It is better to throw your money off a bridge than to buy from this company

What I don't get is why the video mags still carry ads for Broadway, and the other names it uses.

Look a reseller ratings, or bizrate.com

VSA Lincoln, NE
$5269 I Believe
Phone# (402) 467-3668 ext. 132. Talk to Lori
Not in stock however.
Might take a while to get it.

I work with somebody who bought from Broadway. Ground shipping was around $200 to CA. They upsold him a couple of batteries but that's it. They said it was in stock but it took over a week to ship. But he now has a camera with a couple of extra batteries for less than 5 grand. I believe he purchased a 2 year Mac warranty for around $200. So the price ends up being in the same ballpark as the least expensive authorized dealers.
I would not say he regrets it. He got a camera with a warranty quickly for fairly little.
good luck
Sam

My feeling is that the extended warranty kicks in after the Manufacturewr warranty of one year parts and labor. That is one of the scams that I have heard. The problem of course is that the warranty is in the country of origin, and that could be Japan or ???

I think that working with a legit dealer that has a link to Panasonic is the best way to go.

DON'T BUY FROM BROADWAY VIDEO!!!! they will f you over. Very sketchy place. just look at how much they charge for shipping and handling.

Armatos is an authorized dealer, IIRC.

But right now if I'm not mistaken Abel has been running an N.A.B. special where will beat that price by about a hundred bucks, and if you mention DVXUser they'll throw in some sort of bonus that's worth $100.
