1080p 2/3" PL & C mount Lenses - NAB just got NAB-ier

Well, it is the SI-1920, we have a couple different models though so that's what the HDVR is for. It stands for High Definition Video Recorder.

The camera head itself (the $12.5K version) is the SI-1920HD-GE (for High-Definition gigabit ethernet).

I guess we can think about cooler names . . . I know some people who could think up of some good ones ;)

Like...

"Hey I think I want you to shoot a commercial for my company. Can you shoot digital, like that RED camera?"

"Well, yes, I happen to have a brand new SI-1920 HDVR!"

"Huh?"

Exactly!

I have 2 questions for the Silicon Imaging Team.

1°)
If we look at your products, we see that all is very modular.
So, do you plan to make your camera easily upgradable. I mean the possibitity to change the head camera and put a new head with a better cmos.

2°)Do you plan to release an HD CMos with this killing technology : dual_slope
which improved vastly the dynamic range.

hvpz,

The guys in the know at Silicon Imaging are travelling today, so I hope that can answer before they are completely engaged with NAB. However my understanding is the dual slope technology will not be used, afterall the dynamic range of this sensor is naturally very good.

1.) Yes, The architecture is Very modular! Yes, it is possible to change the camera head as new and different models are offered. For example, we plan on offering a monochrome version 1920 camera head for those that want true B&W!

2.) Our current technology delivers 10-f stops of dynamic range and have no plans to use this method! Dual slope technology is useful for industrial imaging but yields discontinuities at the breakpoint between slopes!

Oh I do hope this camera turns out to be a hunk of junk so I can go ahead and buy the hvx and save some money. I"m having doubts though. the workflow set up on the lcd screen alone is a light year ahead of other cameras. the dof is amazing and although there are focus and color problems with the posted footage, there is something about them that gives you that other reality feel of film. very inspiring.
ps. how did the alleged mother of the little girl manage to keep the figure she has. Maybe they should fire the continuity people.

I always come back to the company. Canon, Sony, Jvc & Panasonic with years of development in camera, lens, tech, workflow, etc. vs Silicon Image founded in 2001. Sure SI can quite possibly deliver a sweet cam but the resources market support of the above companies are much better.

The established companies may be much better but you need companies like SI to push the envelope; It's called competition and that breeds inovation. I'd say my HVX will become the car mount and dangerous application camera in about a year. I can't wait !

I seem to remember that the 1920 camera head has a rolling shutter, as compared to a global shutter, causing vertical lines moving at high speed to skew. Has this problem been fixed?

Rolling shutter is not an issue. We run the chip at a very high Mhz to make sure that the read-out time is short-enough to avoid any visible rolling shutter skew.

There is one clip already on our gallery that shows that there's no issues with rolling shutter, and we will be posting more clips on our website soon.

Poi,
Just so you are aware, we are an established camera manufacturer. SI has been designing industrial cameras for a number of years now - check out the other side of the web site from the first splash page. I'll admit, we are new to cinema which is why we are active on the boards and seek out advice from people in the industry already. The good part of that is that we don't presume to know what you need. We ask. The people on the forums have had a lot to do with the direction we chose for the SI-1920HDVR.
Another plus for you is that we don't have the need to protect our high end products by crippling any camera that you can afford. We aim to provide an excellent camera at an excellent price - no more, no less.
Regards,
Steve

Well said Steve. Besides, in general or in all, your speech rocks. I like it! An example to everybody. Reliable.

NAB Launch in 11 hours

We are all setup in the Adobe booth for the world premiere of the first digital cinema camera with direct-to-disk recording!

The footage we shot in Las Vegas is playing next to the camera and also being edited in the AMD booth at the Cineform station.

Be sure to to listen in to the Monday afternoon interviews with Silicon Imaging and Cineform from the BuZZ live:
