I hardly ever eat pasta or pizza anymore...just the very occasional treat. Concerning bread, I buy low carb bread. Potatoes are pretty much gone. I did have garlic/rosemary mashed potatoes with a rack of lamb the other day but that was a rare occurrence. Meat, fish and fowl make up the bulk of my diet. I am able to eat quite a few different vegetables.

that is tough.. im crazy about cooking and love italian food.. no pasta and bread would be a disaster for me... and no pizza... **** i dont think i could do it. how does a wine lover like you do it? all those good things that go with wine... what about cheese? is there such a thing as good tasting low carb bread?

Yeah...but I ain't doin' strength training. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) I'm willing to do cardio and some crunches and pushups but I'm not putting one foot inside a gym :furious3:

But you don't need a gym...everything I do I could do at home with a set of dumbells. It's not about fancy machines and equipment, it's about pushing the muscles beyond their current limits.

Cheese is definitely okay... it is a large part of my diet. I have tried low carb pasta, but it pretty much sucks so every once in a while I splurge with the real thing...I usually make my own pasta when I have it. I could have it a little more often as long as I make sure it's a small portion. The greatest part of the way I eat now, is my energy level. Prior to changing my diet, I weight 238 and barely had the energy to get my lazy ass off the couch. Within four days of changing my diet, my energy level went through the roof. I could sit still, I had to be doing something. It was great. Since I'm now in a long term maintenence phase, some carbs have found their way back into my diet. I just have to keep an eye on it and make sure I don't start gaining weight.

Right now, I weight about 197 and I'm going to add some exercise back to try and take off seven pounds. I'd like my weight range to fall between 190-195.

It's funny because I used to be a pasta/pizza/bread monster and thought I couldn't give those things up. After I got used to the new lifestyle, I don't miss them that much. As I said, I occasionally splurge on some pasta or a couple slices of pizza. It keeps that feeling of deprivation from eating at me.

EDIT: Wine and liquor (in moderation, of course) are okay. I gotta go VERY EASY on the beer, though. That's really been the hardest part because I like Guinness and Pilsner Urquell. Not to mention brewing my own.

What I'll say about a low carbohydrate lifestyle is that it's not for everyone. I'm certainly not "pimping" the diet, only that it has worked for me. Everyone is different and to achieve and maintain certain personal goals, you have to do what works for you.

Be advised that as I added carbs back into my daily diet, I have learned the importance of moderation and also that you have to be aware that when you're craving something, give yourself a "taste" so it doesn't consume you...if that makes any sense.

I use the elliptical machine at the gym. I refuse to go running or use a treadmill. My knees take a pounding during the summer from playing soccer on dry hard fileds and playing tennis on the hard courts. There's very little stress on the knees on the elliptical machines though, so I can get a cardio workout without pounding the knees.

I've been avoiding this thread like the plague... I am so bad at excercising. We have these awesome weight machines and cardio stuff at home, but I am just so lazy when it comes to this. I need to be challenged to do this, and I think I need to start at least doing cardio on the elliptical machine.

i've been eating spelt and rice bran pasta instead of wheat and i make my own sauce from fresh tomatoes it's rather easy to make with your own ingredients ie; no oils, tomatoes from the vine stew it up with garlic and carrots(this will sweeten the sauce without sugar and cut the acidity and bay leaf) then just sprinkle italian seasoning for 3 to 4 hours low temp, then bottle it up and freeze for meals to come.

you know i love food! that's why i like to cook and it's cheaper and i know what's in it. but i must say i am lucky to have a metabolism that burns the calories...but then again with a fast metabolism i'll probably die young! there's the good with the bad and vice versa!
