Alright kids; get your butts in shape !

Holy thread, how'd I miss this one.

For me, I was always 185, worked out everyday, and played baseball. Then I blew out me knee and six surgeries later my muscle mass has gone down and my fat rate has sky rocketted. I've done the no carb thing, gotten back down to 180, but once you go off, gained the weight back and more. Around the first of the year I had gotten all the way up to 245, which is 40lbs heavier than I've ever been. At this point I am on a low carb diet (I eat breaded chicken a lot) with a lot of salads. In a month I have lost 20lbs, down to 225, I bike 30 minutes everday with my heart rate above 120, push ups, sit ups, and tennis now that the weather is changing. I can't really run anymore because of my knee (pins hold it together), but I like those eliptical machines because they are no impact.

The problem isn't the # associated with weight, it is the muscle to fat content of your body. For me, the last decade has thrown me completely out of wack, and sitting in front of a computer 10 hours a day in the office doesn't help much either.

The one thing that I have learned from going and seeing a nutritionist is that breakfast is important. I always trade breakfast for an extra snooze bar hitting session or two. Now I get those south beach diet bars and eat one of those at my desk in the morning. By the time lunch comes I'm hungry, whereas if I skip breakfast I'm never hungry. It just comes down to kick starting your metabolism.

Either way, I'm in this get fit movement. My goal is to be back at 185 by the end of the year. That is another 40lbs!

And regarding Blaines comments on page one about my smoking, yeah I was going to quit, and I still plan on it, but... oh, screw you and your elephant memory brain!

I'm in decent shape -- at six feet, I weigh in at a buck ninety-five without the saddle, and except for some softness on the sides, that's muscle. I bench 225, with the goal of 250 by the time my wedding rolls around in August.

I haaaaate running.

Well ? Larry ?

How goes the first day ?
Well, last night I got home and decided this was all crazy talk and I'm not getting involved!!

Seriously, I am actually starting tomorrow (because I have some critical work to finish today). But along with that I am starting a "Pilgrimage To Health" blog to track my progress and "keep me honest". Here's the post where I discussed it earlier this morning: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=520126&postcount=37

The blog is now linked at the bottom of my sig.

So, I get one last hurrah....I'm eating a big fatty lunch today and drinking a big soda

I can still lift, but got too much lard on top of the muscle.

I think the worst thing is that in college if I wanted to gain or drop 10lbs give me three days and it's gone.

Now, well these 20lbs have taken me almost 2 months. Speaking of which, Jack in the Box has an awesome salad for lunch that is low carb and is twice as big as the sit down places I used to go and spend $13 a day at.

Starting tomorrow ....

Mmm hmmm.

Yea, I knew you'd like that :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Seriously, I was all set to start today...I even washed my gym clothes and bought a new gym bag to carry them in. But I have to get this project finished...the worst part is, I'm not doing much in the way of work, but I have to sit and baby sit it in case it blows up.

Oh well, it gave me a chance to figure out how to start one of those blog's so I can finally feel like I am truly a member of the internet universe.

Ok, you're right...since I promised you I would start today; I'll make sure I go for a long walk, or jog, or do push-ups or something tonight.

But tomorrow starts the official Pilgrimage.

Anything to do with a certain boat anchor?

Okay Larry and John. I'm in this with ya. I've been beating around the bush with this excersise thing. I've been more active, in preparation for the Mud Run. But now, IT'S ON! I get home from vacation tomorrow, and I'm going to hit it, hardcore. You guys won't even recognize me. :costumed-smiley-047

Ok, John...I went out and jogged a half mile last night. It was tiring, but I feel better for having done it. I will jogg a half mile each night this week and then Monday I begin the weight training program that I have had previous success with.

I will journal every day of my Pilgrimage to Health on my new blog, which I finally started this morning. The link is down there in my signature.

Come on everyone, this is our chance to not only be known for our love of the DVX, but also our total user list of healthy filmmakers!

I hate running . . . unless I'm chasing a tennis ball across the court or a soccer ball down the field. Soccer is great because it's a lot of sprints, but since I love playing, it's fun. When I played tennis every day, I was a lot thinner, but that was because I could hit for hours. Soccer is definitely a lot more running over a shorter period of time.

I hate lifting weights. Those damn things are too heavy. That's why I just lift a tennis racquet.

Soda is the devil. I rarely have one. When I do Carne Asada I might get a Coke but rarely drink that crap. It's like 4 Million Pounds of Sugar in a glass.

High Fructose Corn Syrup. Even worse than sugar, because your body isn't quite sure what to do with it. It doesn't metabolize it, it just stores it...as fat.

Martial arts. Get in shape and learn how to properly open a can of whoop ass.

It is pretty strange when you think about it..."going to the gym" means I am paying somebody to go into their building, pick up their really heavy stuff, put it back down, then walk out again. Strange

Yea, I recently learned about the problems the body has with fructose...and that a lot of intenstinal problems can actually be fructose intolerance. I became lactose intolerant several years ago...just kind of came out of the blue. I couldn't figure it out because I never had a problem with it in the past, but when I started learning about fructose intolerance I found that it could actually be the true cause of my problems. Weird stuff.

My bold prediction: Whatever next new thing Hudson is into, Larry R will be right there to say he's down with it too. :)

That said, way to go, Larry R! I read your first blog entry and I will track your progress like a GPS. :)

Hey, as long as J.H. gets into cool stuff (e.g. filmmaking, dvx/hvx cam's, health, not-banning-Larry, etc) I am so definitely "down with it too" :)

Thanks, glad to have you join the pilgrimage...a year from now when I'm all svelt and ripped, you'll be wishing you had been nicer to me!

Tennis rules ! Soccer is kind of gay (NTTAWWT) though. But that's cool if you're into it. But tennis is great. Brutal workout playing Singles
