Hey all

I am just getting a system together for my company and I was just approved a budget. Someone put a package together for me that would cover all of our production needs. There are a lot of items on the order list but I will list the core:

(3) Canon XL H1 cameras
(3) Apple G5 Quad custom systems
(3) Focus/Canon Firestore HD
(1) AJA Kona 3 and K3 Box HD video I/O
(1) ATTO 42EX fibre host adapater card
(1) Avid Studio HD (software)
(6) HP L2332 23" computer/HDTV monitors

Now I have heard that Avid will not work with the Canon Xl H1 and that Avid does not even have an Apple version. The sales guys I am working with says they do.

Does the Canon XL H1 work well with the Avid Studio HD editing system? Does the Canon Xl H1 work well the Apple system? Is this a good shooting/editing combo??

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Ed

I don't know why the H1 shouldn't work with the Avid. The H1 shows up under FCP with Sony HDV control, but you can only capture the interlaced modes. I would imagine it would be similar with the Avid until they explicitly support the F modes from HDV material. That said, if your system has SDI input you could capture to DNXHD format and just work form there with regular 1080i or the F modes. If you use the Firestore I'm not sure if the Avid allows you to transcode the m2t's recorded on the Firestore into DNXHD format without having to go through the full SDI capture.

hth,

Elton
