Sides when you are working out like a damn fool; you can get away with cheating big time!

When I first read that I thought you were talking about sumptin' else. I was thinking, "No way! Not Hudson!".

My wife bought an AbLounge XL that arrived last week. I've had about four serious sessions on it. It does feel good to stretch your back on that thing.

Does it work? I have an ab roller or something like that and when I use it regularly it seems to work. I used to do about 600 crunches a day on it, then "something happened" and I broke my routine and didn't get back to it. Everytime I saw one of the adds for the AbLounge it got me to thinking...

Low Carb diets don't work if you work out.

Low/No carb diets are for people who don't do any working out, sit down all day, weather a job, or just lazy, and don't do anything.

You have to do a split, with Carbs/Protiens/Fats if you wanna lose weight, gain muscle, or just stay at the weight you are at now. This is if you work out. If you don't work out at all, then go ahead and to the low carb/no carb diet, but its gonna be a yo-yo diet, you'll lose the weight, and it'll bounce right back up.

Actually, I was working out to some degree during my weight loss period. And as I said earlier, I've maintained my current weight for 13 months...so much for yo-yo, you-you :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

It's really about a life style change and not getting to your goal and then resuming your old life style.

But you ate carbs/fats/protiens, you didn't drop Carbs completely, you said Low carb, correct?

Its impossible to lose weight with a No Carb diet, and keep it off. I've been through it, studied it, if its anything I know alot about, is this stuff, No Carb diets are all Yo-Yo diets, Low carb is an exception, specially when lifting heavy, you need the Carbs, Protiens, pre-workout, and the Protien post-workout without the Carbs.

Congrats thoguh :)

If by no carb, you mean 0 carbs, yes it was a low carb diet. 20 grams of carbohydrates/day for 2.5 months then slowly increase the carbs to a maintenance level of 50-60 grams of carbohydrates/day. With the occasional moderate splurge, of course. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Actually, wine is fairly low in carbs as long as you don't overdo it. Scotch has zero carbs. Beer on the otherhand...well, let's just say that for me beer is fairly few are far between. That's why, when I have a beer, it's gonna be a good one.

Yep, figured.

Congrats though, I'm on my way of losing some 15 pounds, for New years Vegas :)

Running & Eating right. I swear by it. I was 220 lbs a year ago, then I started to watch what I ate just a little and ran for a half hour 6 days a week. I dropped 50 pounds.

I've gotten off of it since christmas and gained 10 back, but I'm gonna pick it up again, I felt and slept so much better.

Once I get into a routine of exercising, it makes me really irritable to miss a day. It's taken me about a year and a half, but I'm just about the same weight now as I was when I was 20. I'm 35 now and feel damn good. Jogging and portion control do it for me. I splurge now and again, but I always know that I'll have to work extra hard that week to get back to were I was. Also, buying a scale really helps you concentrate on what you're eating. Having to look at the numbers every morning is a great incentive.

Bottomline is common sesne, moderation and stay active it sounds like.

Cardio being a ton more important than strength alone. I think I have found a nice balance so far.

Lucky for me, i have an incredible metabolism.

Unfortunately for me I have an incredible metabolism.

I used to lift weights a lot in college etc, but totally stopped, sad to say it, after I met my fiance.

I am now 164lbs at 5 10" Its perfect weight. But underneath the shirt (which fits perfectly) I have a little beer gut (or vodka gut I spose). Plus I feel soggy. Not at all the 6 pack maniac I used to be.

I had a couple of pics of me from when I was 19 with my shirt off. My fiance found them like last year and goes "WTF YOU CAN LOOK LIKE THAT?????"

I really wanna get on the excercize thing, But my job is kicking my ass. The only vacation I've had in 5 years was the 4 days I took off after going to the hospital, straight from work, with a panic attack. Basically all I do now is try and stay off xanax. (That stuff is worse than heroin, seriously)

I know everyone says working out relieves stress, but when I get home at night the only thing I wanna do is crack open a beer and freakin chill out.

Maybe one day I'll get motivated :(

Yeah...it's really hard for me to actually go to the gym and work out. Sad thing is....I work in a gym :( It's the type of place where when you work there all day, you deffinetly don't want to stay there once you're off the clock. The other hard part is that I am either working or in school for most of the day, 5 days a week, and when the weekends come around I'm just not motivated. I do other stuff though, like ride my bike and the occasional hike. I wrestled and played water polo in high school, so I know that I can be in really good shape, but its just so hard to be motivated. I hopped on the treadmill and ran 3 miles the other day though, so I'm not completely out of it yet....

Personnaly I think it is all about balance...Cardio is important just to get the heart pumping, but I found that my best weight-loss results came not from cardio nor from dieting, but from strength training. When I was using the "Body For Life" workout not only did I experience tremendous muscle increase, but I lost weight while still eating fast food a couple times a week and still drinking at least 1 soda a day.

The best part was, when my work situation changed and I was forced to stop working out for a while, I continued to maintain my weight loss for about 3 months even though I wasn't watching what I ate. The extra lean muscle continued to eat the fat.

Anyway, I have made a decision...because I have had such a difficult time getting motivated this time around I am going to publicly journal my progress. I have created a blog: http://healthpilgrimage.blogspot.com/ where I will begin tracking my progress on this Pilgrimage to Health. I will start populating the blog tomorrow (Wednesday, April 19) when I begin the fitness program. I will be updating it at least every couple days to track my progress and will detail what I have done for exercise on that day (detailed strength/cardio program) and what I ate. Perhaps no one will visit, it doesn't matter...I'm using it to keep me accountable so I'll stay on this track until it becomes my lifestyle.

Thanks again John for this virtual "kick in the pants" :)

Peace,
Larry

Lucidz, I have the same 'problem' as you. Most diets nowadays are for the people that want to lose weight. What about us guys that want to GAIN weight?

When I was in HS, I weighed a good 165 and I'm 5'10". Most of the weight was in my legs because I played soccer everyday for 3 or 4 hours.

Once I got up to college, I didn't work out at all except Fall of '04. I haven't weighed 165 since 2002 and it's mostly because I've been sitting on my ass and my muscles went into what I would call severe atrophy.

The only way for me to gain weight is by working out. We have a badass rec center here at TCU too, it's free, there's hot women, but I never 'find' time to go over there and do my thing. Every once and awhile I feel the need to lift weights, but I never go back. It feels great when I do though.

I think we should all keep tracks of our weight gain/losses on here. That may be set for more motivation.
