RoweCine Dolly kits now for sale!

Plywood

Plywood

Thanks Neil, I'll see if Lowes has the oak or cherry, if not I'll put two 1/2 sheets together.

thanks again!

I'm curious about the tracks also. 220 post here, and few discuss the track, which has always been the trouble with these types of dollies. No one questions how the wheels and bearings perform - it's getting smooth, tight seams in that danged old PVC.

Also, the Rowe kit only comes with two "connectors" (whatever that means) - but I need three 6 foot length (cargo area in my car will only support a six foot section) which is four connections. So are the connectors offered by themselves?

the kit comes with 4 connectors, enough for 2 track connections using PVC. you can just buy 3/4" close pipe nipples at a hardware store to use as connectors individually. we just throw some in becuase they are cheap and a nice little extra. use a 3/4" end cap to "tap" the pvc and bore some threads into it for the close nipples. in the sample video ooff the first page of this thread you can see the dolly going over 2-3 connections in some of the really long dolly shots. you wont actually notice anything cause the connections are perfectly smooth after wearing the the threads in with the end cap.

Hey Neil, just got a chance to pick up my kit from the post office, since i've been sick and all I can say it that it looks worth the wait. I won't have a chance to build it for a while, but it looks very nice. The new handle is killer.

Thanks,

Jason

Well, I'm deffenetly just acting nervious here...
The thing is that living in Europe, I just can't renember how those inches look like in the metric system.
The question is: Does anyone know if pvc pipes sizes are the same in Europe?. If not, will european pipes work fine? And last but not least: Will we find here those pipe connectors (wich I've never seen as the pics are too small)?:Drogar-Sick(DBG):

Hi Neil,

I've started assembling the dolly and I've got a couple of questions. I know there are mounting bolts at the top and bottom of the wheel truck per instructions. But there is also a hole in the middle of each truck for another mounting bolt? Which would make sense as I've got six bolts.

Okay, dumb question number two. I've got a couple of pieces I can't identify. Four round small pipe looking pieces (threads on outside). 2 fasteners(?) and a piece that has bolt on top. I've read through the directions but I'm at a loss.

Other than that, it's really looking good so far!

thanks for your help,

no prblem jp,

the holes which are offset in the middle are indeed for the other 2 mouting bolts / 2 locking nuts / 4 washers.

the 4 threaded pieces are thge screw in track connectors, and the threaded one with a bolt on top is the end cap piece. check the "using the screw in track connectors" page. its the last one in the cine dolly manual, and it should go over what to do with them.

im not exactly sure what the 2 "fasteners" would be. theres 2 extra wheel bearings included with a cine dolly kit, and if you purchased a handle kit theres 2 clip hangars. the clip hangars are covered in the end of the cine dolly handle manual.

hope this helps!

Hi Neil,

Weird dilemma, I went to Home Depot and Lowes and the thickest plywood they had was 3/4. Where does everyone go for their plywood? If this has been mentioned before, sorry, I didn't see anyone else mention this problem.

thanks in advance!

Dude, I went to the Home Depot (in CA), asked the employees in the wood/lumber area, that I needed 1' of plywood, and they sent me to a section that had 1 and 1/8 inch plywood!!! Not sure how much more strength the extra 1/8 of an inch adds, but it is very strong for a dolly indeed!! Myself and one other person stood on it (The 4'/32 Wheel version), along with a DVX on a tripod, and had someone pull us both--works great, really smooth!!

Anyways, hope you at least found 1"!!

Ah, okay, didn't see the last page. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

The last two dohickeys on the left are what confusing me.

Sean Michael sent me a PM with info about the dolly track. We're hoping to get feedback from other users. We want to basically match the quality of the dolly with a track setup.

Any feedback would help.

"The PVC pipe I bought was 1.5" "schedule 40" thickness...pretty much the standard stuff they sell at Home Depot. It's plain white PVC pipe.

I have it in two lengths. I have two sections of 10-foot pipe, and recently bought four of 5-foot pipe. I also bought some plastic connectors for the 5-foot pipe at Home Depot ($2.50 a piece)...haven't tried it yet.

Obviously, the 10-foot is tough to transport. I hope the 5-foot will work without any bumps.

As some have mentioned on the thread, track is rarely discussed and yet crucially important! We need to start a thread dedicated to getting the track right."

those are the extra wheel bearings. :) just save them in case you happen to accidentally drop an elephant onto a wheel. lol, its not easy to ruin the bearings, but it could happen. most likely from running them through alot of water and washing the internal lubrication out.

agreed. the track is very important. but in general, i stick to using cheap pvc for quick setups. when using the connectors right (after tapping well) there really isnt a noticeable seem at all. Ive thought about releasing a track system for the dolly, and have the plans all drawn up and materials planned, but there really hasnt been enough ..if any demand for me to release it. it would be cheaper than existing track kits though.

..just an informal notice to add, but after sponsoring Sci-Fest, we decided that will be a participating sponsor of Hero Fest as well. So happy shooting and make some good stuffs. you could win some nice Rowe Cine swag. :)

Do you only accept payment via paypal? I would be interested in purchasing your product, but I am not a big fan of paypal. They screwed me over a while back, held my money for a year, and made me jump hoops to get it. That wasn't much fun...

yes, right now it is only through paypal. it is a direct payment sent to us and we have not had any issues at all with payments.

Hello Neil, I´m Oscar Parra, from Spain. I´m a Paypal user, what steps must I follow to make the payment for Cine Dolly Wheels?
When I make click in PAYPAL icon for 335$ option (international), a new window is open BUT without the info about product to buy. It´s the login PayPal page....

Thanks in advance.

Oscar
