Good Bad Movies

I think Starship Troopers is totally a bad movie when you compare it to a film such as Lawrence of Arabia, but compare it to something else and it can be good.

Kickboxer and Bloodsport ****ing own hard but they also suck quite a bit, just depends how you want to watch them!!!


Ohhhhhh and SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO .... anyone seen that???? it's a classic.....

Okay, Starship Troopers was bad, BUT when they get to that end part, where it becomes a recruiting video...that made up for everything. I loved that.
 
Waterwolrd failed in the third act but had me up until then.

IMO Waterworld failed from the first frame. I tend to hate movies that completely rip off others. IE Waterworld is The Road Warrior on water. Barb Wire was a complete theft of Cassablanca. The Patriot is Braveheart in New England.
Garbage, all of them.

It's one thing to say that "Starship Troopers" isn't a good movie, that's fine, it's a matter of opinion and personal taste.
But to say it isn't satire is just wrong.

You may not think it was well done, but that doesn't make it any less of a satire.
That's like me saying that "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" isn't a comedy because I don't think it's funny.

Of couse it's a satire. It's completely over the top and very cheesy in some parts. Verhoeven did a similar thing in Robocop, which also had moments of being over the top, like in the commercials and news reports.

If you know the director's work, he wouldn't just shoot things that way to be cluelessly silly like in some other drivel out there. It all has a purpose... well, maybe not all, but you get the point.

Turkish Delight was very funny and suddenly became very serious, so not all of his work is satirical.

Alien Vs Predator. I have no idea why I like this movie so much, but I really do.

(I also loved both Starship Troopers and The Postman, for the record)
