Tarantino's and Rodriguez's "Grindhouse"

QT is a master filmmaker.

But Rodriguez on the other hand, is more into technology and advancing the way films are made (which is good for us) and a reason why I like and admire him.

But his body of work on whole is just all over the place and not very impressive. Let's be honest.

El Mariachi is so impressive because of the way it was made and the fact it was made for $7000 on 16mm film. We all know the story.

His second film, Desperado, Pretty much a remake with a bigger budget and cast. Not very impressive.

The Faculty. Felt like a TV movie.

Dusk Till Dawn. QT's signature was all over that film. That's why I love it. Good film.

After dusk till dawn, he seemed to navigate to digital and started pumping out film after film. Not caring about quality, just evolving technology and the way he made them.

Once upon a time in mexico could've been great if he took his time with it. It felt like a 4 hour epic squashed into a 90-minute film.

But Sin City is epic. It's probably the best film he'll ever make. But he had everything right there in front of him, thanks to Frank Miller. He just brought the technology and the way to make it.

Tarantino - 14 years. 4 films. 4 masterpieces.

Rodriguez - 14 years.11 films. 1 masterpiece.

Can't really argue with Tarantino being the better filmmaker.

In a wierd way, Rodriguez and Lucas are both in the same camp. Both championing the technology over substance.

Of course !
That being said, I pretty much agree with Filmjunkie's post EXCEPT for me, FDTD just work. It had great potential, particularly the 1st part but seemed to fall apart. QT really needs to take stock of what he wants to do and do something memorable again. JB was the last one for me.

You didn't like Kill Bill, Blaine?

I have a feeling Inglorius Bastards is gonna rock people's worlds.

It is gonna be something special, like Pulp Fiction was.

It was okay. I bought I and II. But for me it just doesn't measure up to his first three. It's entertaining, but...

I like them both in their own respects. Tarantino is the better film maker, sure, but Robert Rodriguez ain't no Kevin Smith either. He wants to entertain the crowd, and he does so very effectively. Probably one of the people that makes over the top action movies that I can actually enjoy. I kinda see the comparison to George Lucas, except I don't think he screwed up as much as Lucas has as of late. Then again, he never made flicks like American Graffitti either, but both of them have a penchant for entertainment, and the fact that they're not the best script writers doesn't stop them ( a catagory QT has dominance over, as obvious).

I hope Inglorious Bastards is really good. I don't see how it can't be. Kill Bill was great fun and a really good movie, but with this one Tarantino is probably gonna move back into his earlier directoral style and do less homage stuff. Let's hope at least.

I'm of the opinion that homage has always been his directorial style.

Although i do feel Reservoir Dogs was his most original work.

Anyone know anything about the story of Inglorious Bastards?

as far as i can tell its about some disgraced WWII soldiers who are taken off of death row and instead given a suicide mission against the nazi's...

also heard that he started work on it before shooting kill bill but the script turned out to be like 600 pages long.

no word as to whethor its going to be split up or significantly shortened, but qt said the script still probably wouldnt be finished for almost a year

only actor attached so far is micheal madsen, for obvious reasons...

other cast rumors include sly stallone, adam sandler and eddie murphy..

btw, most of this info comes from imdb, so maybe you should head over there yourself and try to wade through rumors

Sounds like The Dirty Dozen

Sometimes I can't figure if Quentin assumes most people haven't seen these movies, or he just doesn't care.

Basically, are we in on the joke or part of the joke :)

Still like him though. He da man.

When replaying stuff of his in my head, yeah, it does seem like it was always his style. Maybe it was just that his homage in kill bill was somewhat differrent or overexaggerated at times so it seemed different. Kill Bill looked good, but Pulp Fiction was something i'd never seen on screen before.

Just for you John Hudson!!!

Check out this unbelievably cool image that's floating around.

It's posted on Aint it cool news and supposedly is the cover of the screenplay.
