I knew this was the stuff. 25k and you are the MAN Still can't afford it but rent it for 2 weeks and make a full length broken film(the short movie).
"Test#2 Canon XL H1 with supplied 20X zoom lens & Sony F900 with 16X Canon lens. While not intended as a "shoot-out", this test, when projected took everyone in the theatre by surprise. The Canon XL H1 > SDI > Wafian compared to the F900 > HDCAM > SDI > Wafian was superior, not only to my eye, but to everyone present. I'm sure that if we'd recorded the F900 directly from the SDI that we'd have had a different impression."

Man cheap is good. Cheap and Better is even better.

Here here...but don't discount photoJPEG. That is a killer full raster codec for a measly 12MBs (75% quality...4.2.2). Cineform in FCP would be awesome, but there are good codecs to work with right now.

Starway,

I thought your Blackmagic card had hardware support for the codec? If you check your capture settings you might find that you're actually capturing a smaller resolution frame. Post some specific capture settings in FCP and I'll try to see where you might be going wrong.

I did not realize that Miami Vice was being shot digitally; is Mann moving to digital exclusive or........................... ?

Yes he is John! This time around it was settled to use one type of camera for main Principal. Viper was the choice. Instead of Collateral where it was Two different types!

The question is John! Is Mann and his DP using the infamous Magenta filter or going green hue for post!

Viper is bad ass! If you use FilmStream mode and not try to make pretty in front of the glass; then Viper in it's true to form mode is like have a raw film neg. However among DP's there are strong opinions on this, I stand on the side of purity with Viper and just agreeing to see the forest through the trees and know that in post that it will all come together- And in viper's forest it has a green hue before CC!

Also, I think companies like The Camera House are creating "Neutral LUTs" for on-set viewing of a proper image. This way the camera still records in Filmstream mode while a LUT is applied between the camera and the monitor.

In fact, I think you can setup a LUT within the Blackmagic HDLink to emulate a look, effectively removing the green cast and correcting the image.
