Last Music Video with my DVX.

Wow man. Tht is a damn good video. Keeps the angery up there good work.

How did you do the key? What did you use did you roto or is it just a chroma key.
Good job on the comp as well

Gracias. The song does a lot of the work. It's by some friends of mine. I generally don't do music videos unless the song is good. IMHO, it's a waste of time to make a music video for a bad song (unless you're getting paid a lot).

This was a case where the band not only happened to be great friends of mine, but they also wrote a damn catchy rock song.

Did you do all the effects yourself? In what?

If I could make stuff of that calibre, I'd be one happy man. At least I have something to aspire to now ;)

just curious, was the black and white always intended or was it to cover up the green bleed that always seems to occur with dv compression and greenscreening? and the graphics, flash?

I did all the effects in After Effects Pro. The spinning fan is actually my ceiling fan. I shot it, changed it to black and white, and then blew out the contrast.

Cheezweezl, that's a great question. That's exactly why I did that. I knew that DV was gonna be terrible for green screen so I went into it looking for ways to hide the artifacts.

it worked. i kinda wanted to see more contrast in the b&w though. a little too grey overall for this type of video imho.

Yeah...

Yeah...

Yeah. Except for the live footage, the processed shots don't match each other very well. This video was rushed to completion in order to meet a festival deadline so I didn't have time for much tweaking. You'll notice the contrast was boosted on the opening shots but everything becomes a bit more grey later on in the video. I didn't get to finish altering everything.

cool video! I really liked the colors and the arrows. It immediately made me think of the credit animations in Catch Me If You Can.

BUT... there were just a few small things I didn't like about it.

First off, being a music video, it didn't help having some camera men visible during the live scenes (unless this is on some live/tour dvd or something, then it's fine).

Second, there was something about the live footage that just didn't mesh well with the keyed stuff. The keyed work was a really neat theme to the video, but then the live shots just sort of took me right out of the mood the backgrounds got me into. Maybe if the shots looked a little more "animated" so to speak with colors and lighting, and less realistic, it would have worked a little better for me personally.

also, I'd like to add (not a negative) that the shot of the spinning tire and the hand pushing it was really cool. I liked that a lot. :)

In closing, great video! Good tunes, energetic band, great effects, loved it! And the live shots looked excellent as well. the lighting was great, awesome exposure, rack focusing, etc. I just felt that it didn't fit very well. Keep it up!

EDIT: speaking of making edits... I thought the editing was great! Just thought I'd toss that in as well.

great job, i liked it. I agree with the live being mixed with the animated sections.. it took me out of it.
