HVX + G35 Beta

For the G35 itself, it's $999, and the mounts are about $150-175 each...you'll need a lens and camera mount so it comes out to $1300 USD for a basic setup if you don't buy even more additional mounts. Some will buy different camera mounts and lens mounts...

Consider the possibility though that it may be more. I think there were pattent issues about the vibrating glass with Dan Diucou(<--sorry dan, don't know how to spell your name) and his machine. Unless the G35 team found a different non-patented method of vibrating the glass or unless Dan just let them use it for free, I wouldn't be suprised if the G35 costs more.

Who knows though, this is all just speculation in my wee little brain. :0

I don't understand the world of 35 adapaters much but I have been in love with the footage from the demo G35 and I'm on the waiting list. Now that they are switching to vibrating glass what are the possible comprimises? I would hate for the sharpness to come down because of the vibration, but is loss of sharpness a natural result from moving the ground glass? Maybe I'm way off base.

It was an issue with the visible grain. According to Cinemek, the vibraing GG has virtually eliminated this problem. I cannot comment if the image will be any softer. I somehow doubt it.

Thanks for posting jesse,

There is always speculation about the g35. I suppose the reason is, is that they haven't finished designing it.

There's no speculation about the quality of the image the product delivers. There's only speculation as to if the product will be delivered.

It's not a question of if, but a question of when. I'm on their waiting list, so the following is good news:

I just got off the phone with Jonathan @ G35.
...I also spoke with him about the ETA on the G35 units and everything is going quite well with the manufacturing. He's hoping that a bunch of units will be ready by mid to late April for shipment.
:)

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply the units would never ship. I was just joking about how they have taken so long.

They're just making it perfect. And soon they will be insanely rich. It makes a lot of sense to me actually.

There is a whole level of professional TV stuff (like all that mid to low range reality type stuff) that would love to use a 35adapter. The problem is that the ones that fit into their budgets do not offer a respectable enough and dependable quality. And the two that do are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for their budgets.

It's sad actually. The people who need it, can't afford it and the people who can afford it will just get a higher level camera instead of messing with it.

Yeah,

the M2 is awesme looking these days. I agree completely. I'd love one.

The problem is people are still worried about the extra set up time. Remember, most shooters are just starting to think about these things. They don't want to have to "figure something out" on the job. They just want to pop it on and press GO.

I love the M2 footage these days. It makes video not suck.

But seriously, how many productions with guaranteed broadcast are using the M2 right now? Not enough.

I saw two mini35s on set the other day but they were on for one day of the whole season.

If the M2 was pop and play...they'd make WAY more money. I'd probably die cause I'd want one so bad.

know what I mean?

Hmmm mabe im gonna sound realy dumb

But what is a 35mm adaptor, im thinking its a lens mount for 35mm still cam lenses.

Also, could you help me to understand the setup that would be involved to get an image as nice as what the clip showed. I liked the cup on the grass with the flower. I come from an SLR background, and have always wished that i could record the image i see in the viewfinder.

How can I achieve that same type of image with the HVX, lenses, mounts etc, throw it at me.

Not too hard tho *bruises easily* :love4:

any idea of rough g35 release

any idea of rough g35 release

Is there any word on an estimated release date for this adapter? Anything at all? I mean are we talking this year? I can understand not setting a definite release date for fear of upsetting consumers with a false deadline, but can we not get a rough, rough estimate? Summer/Fall 2006? Winter 2006? Spring 2007?

A 35adapter allows your vid cam to take SLR lenses or cine lenses. (Depends on the mount.)

And yes you see the DOF in the viewfinder.

It's a great thing.

You can also get a nice DOF by shooting from a distace zoomed in with the stock lens.

I saw footage from annother adaptor i think, the M2. Wasnt very impressed with the results to be honest, this product seems superior, perhaps the aberations on the M2 image was caused by the poor quality of lens.

I would like to purchase an adaptor for this camera because i have lenses, and if canon cant get their act toggether and offer 25p hi-def with there lens mount system with in the next few days. Id like to be able to fit my lenses to this baby.

Btw, Panasonic just called saying they had a special deal where i can get the PAL camera with 2x 4gig P2 cards for 20400aed this is $5400 or 3179 uk pounds. Is this a great deal, or do u think i can ask for lmore off. If its a steal, il buy tomorrow, and be a happy person.

Any idea how much this adaptor will cost?
When it will be available to the world?
How you controll focus and zoom of ur attached lens on the moove?
And wether its the quality of lens not adaptor that creates Aberations like has happened on the M2 footage?

Cheers :dankk2:

Check out cinemek.com for more info on the G35. (if they are back on line). They are still in development and have not decided on a release date and at this point you cannot order or preorder. Just drool.

If you have the cash check out the MPIC. It is amazing. Holyzoo.com has some hvx + MPIC footage. It is small, grainless, lossless, quiet and expensive as hell.

As far as abberations on the M2....I haven't seen any. All the latest footage I've seen lately has been very crisp. I think they've come a long way. my only problem is with the size and set up of their rig.

-good luck.

As far as I have experienced the M2 is pretty much plug and play. Setting it up was simple. I thought it would be harder and was freaked out because I didn't have access to their tutorial ( another M2 piccadillo ) so we just pulled all the parts out of the box and started looking for a logical way to set it up. 1 hour later we were in business. Not Knowing that the base plate slides from side to side as well as front to back gave us some head scratching moments but once we figured it out we were off to the races.

Having read posts about the M2 and other adapters being hard to set up and use scared me. I was concerned about using it in my feature. Having used it I am happy to say it was easy to set up and adjust. It looks great. Setting back focus was easy as pie and it stays true.

I admit it make the camera heavy but that's mostly the rails and baseplate. A shoulder mount and going hand held will be just like using a the small arri 35mm.
The weight makes the jitters go away in my opinion.

You need a 1st AC and follow focus but you wanted shallow depth of field! Actually I was able to pull focus handheld in a very DOCUMENTARY style. I even got used to seeing the image upside down with some practice. You'd be surprised how fast your brain compensates for stuff. Admittedly a side monitor was better but I'm just sayin'.
Oh and I used a portable DVD player as my monitor. Actually worked pretty good for framing and focus on the run. God bless gaffer tape.

Upside down? ooh my. *feels stomach going already*

Do u recon this M2 mount will work well with the Fancy Fig Rig, or is it a no go.

cheers :violent5: < oh dear, guess that person must have touched my camera ;)

Thats an AMazing Price!

Get it!

That IS a steal, wish I had that opportunity DA! I got my HVX - along with one 4gb card (arriving tomorrow) for £3665 including VAT - but with that I had to part exchange my DVX also. So £3665/DVX including VAT I paid for my PAL HVX with one 4gb card.

But it's 1/3 the price of a mini35, and about 1/6 the price of a MovieTube, so "expensive" is relative...
