Who Has Received Their PAL HVX200?

Who is your dealer, that's not a bad price per card?

I use Mitcorp UK. They have branches nationwide and the service I have received is second to none. They have a fantastic service centre with very quick turnarounds.

I'm thinking about buying another P2 Store possibly 2 which would give me a 3 hour record capacity out in the field.

Don't suppose anyone here is interested in buying a used DSR-11 DVCAM Deck? That would help finance the second P2 Store.

Ok some of you say you have the HVX200E yet I todate have seen NO clips...... are you all to busy or is there a few white lies getting around on who got the camera first?

If it was me id post the first footage just so I can say I was the firstto post it.

Some of us actually work full time in this business and as such haven't had the time to spend on posting clips on forums.

I have an edit deadline looming next week, a lacie D2 Hard drive failure last night does not help the situation and FCP has decided to F@%K around this very (saturday)morning.

So I'm sorry if I haven't spent the time in shooting something nice and posting but unfortunately I have a client who's needs are greater than a few forum members.

So don't expect any footage soon from me.

Rich

Was there really the need to be such an ***?

The footage I posted last night was just a test. I can't get Final Cut to import anything but 25i and 25p on 1080i50.

I'm just learning how to be a good cameraman, let alone how to use this camera, so bear with me, I hope to get some prettier stuff up this afternoon.

[EDIT] What with rain or appointments or something, I'll have to delay. I might be able to do some interiors tonight, but there's too much to do...

I tried a capture to the latest edius broadcast trial. Even though it has a 720p preset, there is no OHCI 720p input setting. I managed to get 1080i through, but nothing else.

My laptop was overwhelmed but it is only a steady one.

It's not a conspiracy. Unfortunately I also have some work to do for a client, and I also still don't have any P2 cards, or anything else that I can record HD material with. Believe me, I'm more frustrated than you are.

But to prove I have a PAL HVX200, here's some quickly grabbed pics. Apologies for the low quality but I'm having problems with my digi-cam. Friend messed around with it on last night out and now I can't shoot anything in focus :furious3:reckon he poured beer in it or something.

I'm going to try and get mine next week. Probably Mitcorp, but I'm sooooo tempted to go to globalmediapro (currently 3500UKP inc duty, vat + delivery). Grey import I know, with a mach warrenty, but there are so many mixed reviews of these guys. How crazy does this sound? Opinions please?

Depends on how much you value after sales customer service. I know for a fact that if my unit goes down I can pick up the phone and call Mitcorp and know things will be sorted the same day or at the very least within 24 hours (meaning a replacement will be sourced in the interim period).

In my opinion and experience, saving a few hundred pounds here or there doesn't necessarily save you money, if you know what I mean?

Congratulations Booth, its a fat ´monster´isnt it? Youre lucky. Yike indeed the pictures are bad.

Thanks Xray. It actually does look much better to the eye than viewing it from pictures though, so I'm not sure of the 'would Kiefer Sutherland take part in a HVX200 movie' argument.

I think this is partly because the camera looks so much better from the front. The great big lens makes it look a lot more pro - compared to the DVX it's massive, and makes it more 'filmy'.

Well I am picking up my HVX200 tomorrow lunchtime.

Questions:
Is it worth buying a 4 gig P2 card?

What benefits would I have spending £480 on a card which will clutter up the back of a drawer in 1 years time when 16 GIG cards are the norm?

I am considering the Firestore. Seems to make much more sense to me.
It will be out in a week or two and will be like a giant P2 card anyway.

And at the moment what is the point of shooting HD when it can't be edited in FCP, as there codecs are not yet supported for PAL?

Looks like I will be taking one step forward and two steps back as I have been shooting and editing HDV for the best part of a year, and now have to go back to SD for a while until Apple gets its finger out and does an update for us PAL users.

Depends on when your planning to shoot on HD really. If you have a project NOW then yes it is worth it. If you can hold off until the firestore is available then yes hold off.

You can shoot on DVCPRO HD right now and Edit in FCP (PAL) as there is at least one codec available in the system DVCPRO-HD 1080i/50i

Avid is my programme of choice, anyone know if DVCPro and DVCPro50 PAL can be edited currently? I've got some work within the month that I'd ideally like to shoot with DVCPro50, obviously if I can't edit it that's going to pose a real problem.

P2 PAL it's supported since the release of the spx800, like a year ago, in many editing softwares. If not supported, there are mxf unwrappers.
