Who Has Received Their PAL HVX200?

Well, I've mainly only managed to shoot indoors last night with very little light and viewing on the sony monitor and the low light areas did look noisy. Buut how are people defining which conditions to look for noise?
I took one shoot outside in bright daylight which looked stunning but I really wouldnt like to say too much until I see it presented on a good monitor.
I havent gotten very far into thinking about connecting it to the pc. I am a avid xpress rph hd user waiting patiently for an upgrade.
Anyone know if the canapus demo works with PAL?

Was that with gain? If so how much?

Going for my HVX200 today, my dealer has no P2 media, P2 store or Firestore as yet though. So I'm limited to SD tape :crybaby:

SPZ - on the question of frame size, DVCPRO-HD is 1440x1080 for 1080i/25P.

1080 stuff imports into FCP just fine. I just sent off for the FCP universal update from Apple in the hope that they'll be slipping the necessary 720p support in there for us PAL users. Overwhelming impression on this camera is positive and hope to have more to share soon.

AAARRRGGHHH!!!! Screenshots! Focus Chart! Please!

Someone send some settings and shooting conditions to test for noise and resolution.

Just found out that a ITV1 (www.itv.com) production team want to hire my PAL HVX200 to test it out alongside either the Varicam or F900 for a prime time show. I suspect they'll be doing rez charts and other tests so if I can get anything from that I will. Don't know when they want it though, only just been notified.

And I haven't even picked up the HVX200 yet! :)

Hopefully if they want the HVX as a B camera they'll hire it from me for the whole shoot and I'll make some cash-back already. Fingers crossed.

Mine arrived this morning.

It's a whole different beast to the HVX, it looks like a futuristic space weapon! (It's the first time I've seen it in the flesh), it immediately made the DVX look old-fashioned.

A report after the weekend, though I have no P2.

FOOTAGE!!!
Guys, who of you will be the first to post some Pal Footage?

For those who have received their cam with p2: pleas record on p2 and play it back, check it on hdtv if possible and let us know what you think!

I am curious how panni used the recent 3 month between pal and ntsc release.
Hopefully there will be less noise and no macroblocking!!

I viewed some SD resolutions on our PAL component CRT broadcast monitor, and the lack noise looked a big step up from the DVX100A - if that's any use.

I couldn't really see any. And definately no macro blocking.

I'm going to put it on the projector tonight in 720p.

First view looks promising, the frame rate thing has caught me off guard (not being applied to the scene file).

I could maybe take some footage, is there any way to capture footage without P2 on a PC based system?

Yes. Try downloading edius Broadcast demol and do a capture from firewire.

Hi Steadycam,
great, i thik you posted the worldwide first pic of the pal hvx!

Please try to record some stuff and check it on your screen, if you dont have p2s yet please try capturing to the trial of canopus edius!(guess you are pc based..!)

Sorry Dude,

I'm MAC based and as such can't physically get footaged into FCP yet......

Why not? you haven't got Final Cut 5? You can record direct to disk like a normal dvcamera! Just open Final Cut pro and choose dvcpro HD 1080 50i, and you are all set! (I think even Final Cut 4.5 can do this!)

There's certainly something to Panasonic's Cinegamma that is unique and not present in the competition's interpretation of "cine-gamma".
Panasonic had to do something to compete with its bigger brother, but seriously, isn't "the look" made in color grading in the post?
So it doesn't matter how film-like the camera original is.
Eg. have you ever seen print films made straight out or camera negative with 0-light for daylies or workprints for steinbeck? They are usually very not-film-like...

Since we all have decent color grading possibilities in our editstations these days, camera manufacturers should consentrate in how to get as raw as possible image out of camera. These ready-made looks are just for the biggest hurry like ENG.

OK, sussed what was wrong with my settings in FCP. I selected DVCPRO50 HD Device and not the 'non controllable device' setting in log and capture. So I've grabbed a small 23 second clip via "LIVE" Log and Capture and the file size is 318Mb. I'm using a 17" Powerbook and there's just no way the system is coping with the data amounts. Looks like I'll have to upgrade to a Box sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately I can't do any slo-mo tests as I believe the codecs aren't yet available from apple (correct me if I'm wrong, remember I'm in PAL land).

It's very bizarre not seeing the whole frame when playing the clip in QT. I guess I'm not used to this uber resolution.

Any way you can post this? :)

Anyway, what happens when you try to capture 720 25P on a default 720 60p setting? Any camera feed?

Oh, really? I thought you could only firewire in host mode, I thought we had to go USB2.0.

Still, I will give it a try.
