Erasing P2store and backedup P2 cards on Mac

This might be a dumb and very blonde questions, but I'm in need of erasing the contents off the P2store from my G5. There's no way it seems to drag the contents to the trash and erase the drive... Just seems to want to eject the mounted contents. I see that there is an indented otpion to format the drive. Is this the best route to go? Do I need to use this with a PC to erase with a computer? Any and all info is appreciate.

One other thing.. I wanted to erase the p2cards I do have on my G5 and they are locked so I can't do it. I have hundreds of clips and I don't want to go through each to unlock... Is there another method to dumping locked files on the mac.

Thanks ya'll and any info would be greatly appreciated. My next step is to be able to edit the damn crap.... Come on FCP. I want the new bundle for 200

Drag the contents folder to the trash and empty.

Or select the txt file, elect get info, and uncheck the locked box and drag every thing to the trash

Empty the trash.

Note: I thought you were referring to mounted P2 cards. Sorry

Thanks David. With the cards I've been able to do that.. but doesn't seem to be any way to trash the P2store contents from the computer.

I ended up reading the manual just now and formatted the P2store from the button on the front. Worked great.. but Man the manual talks at lenght about the software that only runs on the PC. On the Mac.. we have gotten nothing so far. I would bet that more than 50 percent of the people who bought the HVX are using it on the Mac. Panasonic needs to implement the P2viewer, P2store controller and all of the utilities for the Mac...... Damn!

This is a major oversight. Along with FCP not using the Format directly.... Jan, or anyone, is there something on the horizon?

I with you on this one Justyn. With Panasonic and Apple doing roadshows on the HVX200, and FCP working out of the box with the cam, it is a little startling to see so little Panasonic support for the Mac with utilities.

Then I read posts about a possible P2Viewer for the Mac being developed jointly by Panasonic and a 3rd party that will be SOLD, it troubles me

really.. that just sucks! I've been to the hyped apple/panny stuff and they seem to be so in bed and then deliver this thing without any help on the Mac side. I mean, it would be nice to watch the footage on a powerbook with the viewer... and/or do what I'm doing now. I'm giving my client the footage on DVD with the PC viewer for him to review and make his notes...

I hope something comes around and stops this madness.. For once PC people have an advantage on one area... Horray for them!

Hi all:

We just bought a PC laptop JUST to use the stinking viewer. Editing on Macs but viewing on PCs, what a crock. Oh well, at least the Mac supports editing P2 better than the PC, at least for the time being. Hope Apple announces direct .mxf support for FCP at NAB.

Dan. What type of laptop did you pick up? Anyone know what the bare minimum would be.. and a cheap place to get one? I would like to be able to hook up a drive and use the p2store to offload.

Thanks ya'll

Buying a Wintel laptop? NOT necessary! Try an Wintel emulator on your Powerbook
or Mac, instead :-)
Virtual PC is not very fast on Powerbook and Mac, which is widely known.
However there is "Q" which you can download via this link: http://www.kberg.ch/q/
They just recently published a Universal Binary version, which apparently runs Win XP
on the new Macbook Pro at almost native speed. This alone makes me look forward
to the Universal Binary versions of the Apple pro apps and might convince me to
switch to a Macbook Pro in the near future.

Hope this helps
