My first action movie on the HVX - Trailer

We shot to P2, dumped the cards on an HPdv1000 laptop during production which we copied via firewire to an external LaCie harddrive. Then, when all that was done I took the hard drive into school and threw it one a dual 2ghz Mac G5. 2Gb Ram etc. I edited in FCPHD v5.04 with the DVC50 HD preset (720p 24p). Umm... graphics were jpgs made in Adobe Illustrator... did I miss anything?

Wow... Just watched it... Looks awesome. I really like the look of your lead actor. The only technical issue I saw was there seemed to be a spot on the lens for one of the shots when the hero is about to jump from the building. Other than that it was technically sound, and the footage looked awesome! Great job!

I personally think your shot choices and execution are top shelf. Those final 3 shots on top of the building were perfect, and nicely edited. Looks like you put everything you had into this short. Your talent was good, but didn't quite match your own skills (fellas running scenes and lasses backflip excepted). Slightly awkward moments for me were the spam kicking, the fella swinging wilding at girl backfliping, and the wind up left in truck which any self respecting baddy would've avoided. These things took me out a little, but overall the trailer was sweet.

Are you wanting to make a dvd (and a little cash), or just posting the short on the net? I look forward to seeing more.

Hey, I just added the High Res (640x360 H.264) and Full Res (1280x720 H.264) up at the top of the thread if anyone wants to see it.

Tried to download the high res version but I guess your bandwidth was exceeded for the day.

All these clips are causing peoples bandwidth to be eaten up fast. Hehehehe.

Yeah, do you have a download link for the full resolution video? "Save target as..." won't work, neither the diplay in the browser.

Yeah, there was one shooting day where we couldn't get any cards, so we ran tape.
Sorry Canasian, I read this at work quickly and missed the 'one shooting day' and thought you'd recorded it all to tape which would of course give you just miniDV as an option. Apologies.

By the way if you recorded DVCPro50, that's still SD. But very nice SD :)

I think when you've graded it it'll look superb and yes, that backflip is the highlight of the trailer.

Okay, I looked it up and we shot DVC PRO HD 720p 24n, cause baby, the high res version is SO hot.

And, for all those who have trouble downloading, here's an open directory link.

They're under "switchtrailer, etc etc.mov"

And I can't get enough of the backflip. In the full film, she does two or three back handsprings before going into the backflip. It's poetry in motion. Amazing to watch.

Is "Dante.mov" shot with Hvx200? It seems Varicam stuff to me...which other shorts are shot with Hvx200?

Dante was shot on a DVX-100, my old love. The switch trailer is the only thing that I have that has been shot on an HVX. Or should I say HotVX. The day of the backflip was the first time I had ever shot with P2 cards, so it's been a learning experience.

The backflip definitely was the best part. Definitely still have some room to grow in reference to lighting and composition. This camera is an extremely powerful tool if things are lit correctly (which probably gave it the overall amateurish feel). Did you actually enter this into iOscars because wasn't that supposed to be edited ONLY on iMovie? Are you a Communications Major, or Media Arts? Good work, and I look forward to seeing other things from you.

did that flying can of spam make everythign seem not so serious? hahahahhaha.

but yeah other than that.

amazing. no constructive critisism..but good work.
