indie snap! Matte Box for HVX - sneak peek

Everything is right on track. A matte box is on it's way to lpcvideo1 for review.

As per requests and feedback, the unit has a wide, big ass French flag and optional tapered side flags

M2 setup

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm fairly new to all of this. Would the matte box work with an M2 adapter set up?

thanks,

Quick question, can you adjust/move the side flags? Same question for the french flag. I ask because it looks like the fasteners does not allow the sides to adjust in and out.

This matte box should make Keifer Sutherland pay some respect to the HVX on the set of 24. He has trouble acting in front of "little cameras".

Looks good guys! And at such a great price!

I am new to matteboxes, but I have a general question about immoveable flags. It seems that not having the ability to adjust the french or side flags limits you a bit. Again, I don't really understand matteboxes as much as I should, but i thought movement of those was pretty essential.

At this price, I know it's one of the sacrifices, I'm just look for feedback on what is actually is that I would be sacrificing, and how big of sacrifice that is.

Thanks.

Well, that's a tricky one to answer. Some may argue it's critical. IMHO, it's a great feature, but not paramount when comparing a $300 matt box to an $1800 matte box. Obviously the goal here is to create an affordable solution at a fraction of the price. Sadly, sacrifices had to be made.

I think this is best answered by someone not selling it :)

Why not make one with adjustable flags? How much more difference in price? Two versions would be nice.

yeah, how much can they be . . . the ones for my CHROSZIEL (presently for sale on eBay, and dosen't have side flags) are only $600.

Well, at that price at least you get both sides . . . LOL.
(a little humor here)

Looking forward to getting my IndieSnap mattebox -- thanks Dakotapod!

How would this work with the 15mm rods? Thanks and the product lookss great for the HVX... Will it require any step adapters?

Perfect price..

It's very light so rods are not needed. If you wanted to use rods you could as long as they clear the box [they should]

No step ring needed - Adapter comes with it, you just need to specify what camera you are using.

I just shot all day with a Formatt sunshade/mattebox on an HVX and I think having the hinged French flag is a PITA, I almost had it in a couple of shots when it would fall down or sag into frame. At least having a fixed flag means you will never have it sag and interfere with your shot.

This thing looks like an amazing deal to me!
