Deleting Files From P2 Card Revisited

A little confused here.

We have no problem importing footage into FCP directly from the p2 card.

Once I have imported, however, do I reformat, or just delete?

When try to drag ALL the contents of the p2 card to the trash, I get the warning that they are locked.

Is the proper procedure to drag everything BUT the txt file to the trash and delete using the option key, or just the contents of the contents folder to trash, and then option delete.

Or better, which folders or files to I preserve, and which do I delete?

thanks.

you should only reformat the card when it is placed back in the camera. This way the camera totally erases everything off the card as well as formats it to P2 spec.

If you're hot-swapping two P2 cards to shoot continuously, how does this work? Unless the camera automatically formats the card when you insert it (which I'm 95% sure it doesn't), it would seem as if you wouldn't be able to pull out a card, dump the contents, and format it with the camera fast enough before your other card runs out of space.

Am I missing something here?

In the PC world, you can easily reformat the P2 card in 2 click, no problems. It will probably take a while for good Mac support because all the studio who have heavy use is using PC environment, but they will get there. Ofcourse your other solution is P2 Store, but I am not sure exactly how well they work with a Mac.

Exactly -- on the PC it's no problem, the P2 Viewer program lets you reformat the cards.

On the Mac I think you're supposed to force-delete everything off the cards. Sooner or later someone will show up with a full-featured P2 management program for the Mac and this hassle will go away.

Sorry for being obtuse on my first post, but I'm wondering if someone can walk me through this procedure step by step. Say I'm filming a 1 hour interview in 720/24pn. When my first card fills up, I pop it out of the camera and into the pc slot on my mac. I then copy the files from the card onto my external hard drive, and then?

Questions:

1) Do I delete all the files? Just the folders inside the Contents folder? Leave the Lastclip.txt?

2) Stupid question, perhaps, but how do I do a force delete?

you guys are lifesavers - I'm really learning to appreciate this forum.
