For those interested...

Shot down at the beach this weekend with my XL-H1. Here's a 1080i--to--60p converted clip, conformed to 24p in Cinema Tools.

It's in QT H.264 format. Please let me know what you think.

Laguna!

LoL.

That court is always packed. I like the footage, Elton. Thanks for being such a great advocate of the H1.

Wow. That clip looks great. Suddenly I'm no longer jealous of HVX owners at their 60p mode.

Hey Starway,

You might be surprised how good 1080i footage looks in slow mo when you press the "slow" button on your remote. Try it, it's shockingly good in HD.

I picked up my H1 from Birns & Sawyer last night. It was pouring rain. But it was sunny to me! I can't wait to start putting it through it's paces before our shoot this April.

Oh man, that's sweet. Please post some footage in the future. I'd love to see what some of the true indies are doing with this camera.

Enjoy Starway!

btw, you might want to consider the XL2 16x manual lens. It looks really good even in 1080 HD. Adds a different look to the footage (richer, IMHO) and certainly more pro feel to the lens.

I've been looking for one on eBay.

The lens guy over at Birns warned me against it saying that the center of the frame looks good, but the corners start going soft and the fall of is pretty abrupt. Is this your experience?

What I need more than anything is a wide angle lense. Century is supposedly working on one for the 20x, but they're developing the HVX's first.

I'll post some footage Michael shot with the manual lens on the H1. He also put the Century .6 adapter (existing Sony 72mm?) on the manual lens and it looked pretty good to these eyes in HD.

All I can say is we watched 24F 16x manual lens footage from the b-ball courts on the unforgiving Dell 1900x1200 monitor and it looked great. If the Birns and Sawyer guys say to be wary, well I'm not going to argue with their assessment, but you need to see footage to judge for yourself.
