Oddly, the frame grab's white level [namely Ren6] went a tad cool
when capturing the frame and pasting it into Paintshop Pro?

When looking at the actual still frame, it looks warmer compared to the frame grabs posted here. To me, there's a bit to much magenta for skin tone.

Awesome Steve. Looks great! What program did you use to capture the HDV?

Love this image Steve. Beautiful looking! May I ask what your settings were?

Steve, That's what I was saying about the "true color" scene file. It is not too good for skin tones whether the skin is fair or dark. If the skin is fair then it's too red/magenta if the skin is dark then it is too yellow/red. A better scene file for skin is the Dashwood "cinelike" or I like my "steve" scene file for skin tone.

If you separate the channels to RGBY then you'll see the red is way too hot for skin to look suttle.

Keep shooting!

Great stills...really nice, but I can't get my mind off of a big, juicy turkey leg and a beer.

In all seriousness I'd better start looking into the JVC a bit more as it seems to be a great camera.

thanks,

jason

Stevet,

Could you possibly host an m2t of the beer balancing girl? I would like to see the noise in the blue sky. Is that possible?

They all look great BTW!

mmm,
Unfortunately, my ISP doesn't allow enough space.

If someone else is up to it, let me know.

Of course the noise...
Hell, a beer-balancing girl - yeeeehaaww!!!

the pesky CA (!!!)

the pesky CA (!!!)

:furious3:
The only thing pissing me off about this camera is the horrible CA I see on occasion. The images rendered with this camera are real nice for it's cost. I just wish JVC put a better glass on this camera, even if it would have cost a little more - like a $1500 lens instead of an $800 lens. I would be much happier with it. The basic config with the stock Fujinon lens is OK for DV work for certain clients, however a "real" film short or feature, would definitely require a more expensive glass on the body.

Thanks for the images.

oh, and BTW: so far I found the Paolo "true color" calibrated scene settings work the best overall with the white knee at 80% and Black Stretch at 3 (as posted images). I'm yet to do my own HD tests with different settings and I hear Stephen on the skin tone issue with these settings. I will post my footage later. Thanks to all for your time and energy commited to this forum, I'm glad to be part of this online community.

enjoyed your pictures of the AZ Renfest. I have some that were posted with the help of John Hudson in the XL2 section under the topic of " shall I settle for washed out colors. Though not as filmic as yours I think the Canon Florite did an excellent job on the backlit shots. I might have even seen you shooting around 5PM. Noticed your JVC but was to warn out to go over and say hello

Thanks Mike.
I just got around to reading this followup.
Yes, it was very warm that day. Well, not as warm as today which hit 100F.
I was there with my wife and Joel with his HVX200.

Steve these are excellent, even if they were coming out of a good still camera. The colors are so natural, and there is a good feeling of space. Are the actual video clips as great as these? I would love to see them.

Steve, I assume you're using vegas 6 for your hdv video editing. How is that working out? I'm using vegas 4 now for work with my dvx100a.
