Zoom-thru

OK! I've read some stuff on wide angle and anamorphic lenses, and in some sites, they seem to contradic themselves. What is exactly a lens with zoom-thru capabilities?

Re: Zoom-thru

Zoom thru basically means what it sounds like. If you buy a cheap wide angle lens, things may look good when zoomed all the way out, however, if you need to zoom in while using the lens, you will get heavy distortion and flaring of highlites, overall, a very ugly image. The higher end wide angle lenses will allow you to zoom thru them without getting that ugly distortion and flaring.

Re: Zoom-thru

If it's zoom-thru, it means you can use it throughout your zoom range.

I have the Century .6x wide-angle adapter, and it's listed as "partial zoom-through". It works fine if you're at the wide end of the zoom range (Z00 through about Z60), but if you zoom in past about Z60 or so, it will be impossible to focus. The lens starts to lose focus at about Z60 or Z66 or so, I don't remember exactly where, but if you zoom in further the image will become very out-of-focus.

Re: Zoom-thru

yes its more a focus issue than a distortion issue.. as on wide angle lens it doesnt matter if it is zoom thru or not, it still applies a small distortion.

We have solved this problem in some situations by attatching a diopter to the lens, either right in front of the stock, or infront of the anamorphic adapter.
