Zoom shot with still camera zoom lens

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has used a still camera zoom lens for a shot with a zoom in it? It seems to me that pulling the zoom ring out or pushing it in might be a challenge to keep steady and in focus for a shot. But I have never done it, so I wanted to check before I picked one up.

Besides just pulling the adapter off for those shots, is there anything anyone has tried?

Thanks!

The reason I ask is that I would prefer to have an optical consistence when shooting as opposed to trying to match adapter and non-adapter footage in post. Thanks!

Many zoom lenses have a zoom ring so it's not necessarily a push-pull design. A bigger problem is whether the lens will track focus as you zoom; all lenses made for video will do this but it's not an important features for still.

Thanks for the response. Are there any Nikon mount lenses with a zoom ring that will track? I read that some of the Nikon zooms will track with proper backfocus set, but I believe they have a push / pull zoom design.

If your zoom lens has a separate zoom ring and a separate focus ring, then it should track properly during the zoom. Zoom in all the way, focus, and then the image should remain in focus when you zoom in and out.
