Zoom H4n Trouble

I have only had the H4n for a couple of months, i'm not expert on it but usually use it on films with the two xlr inputs and set the mics and do my main job of DP and working the camera. Lately i have been doing a lot of filming casually and simply using the on board mics on the H4n and mounting it on my GH2.

I seem to be having an issue with my H4n, I am in stereo mode using the on board mics. I push record and that starts the preview levels. The left mic level is very low almost not even there while the right channel is in the middle area and active. This has been happening all week. Is it possible to set the on board mic levels separately? For example like you would usually set the rec levels by simply pressing the rec level on the side, that seems to effect both at once never independently set each. or do you think i have a busted left mic =(.

I would really appreciate any help in fixing the matter, especially if i don't have to send it on the warranty if its not a matter of damaged goods.

Thanks

Not familiar with the H4n, but check this: is there a individual channel pad switch? I can't imagine that you don't have individual control over each channel.....no way.

Make sure that the mics are locked in the same pattern position. In other words, spin the mic head so they are the same, the degrees are written on them. I suspect the left might be between the two settings.

I'm not very familiar with the H4n, but if Tim's suggestion doesn't work, look in the menu/manual to see if there isn't an option to change the balance between the two mics. If there is, one may be set to a lower value than the other.

I'm not that familiar with the H4n either, but you can offset the channels to difference levels... at least with the latest firmware update.

Thanks guys but so far your replys but they are all logical guesses which i have already checked, i hope to get a response from someone who actually has one or used this device before... you know? The suggestions while they are appreciated are basic, The mic angles are set to same etc etc, the thing is turned ON for example lol all the obvious things checked. Assume i have done all the obvious stuff before resorting to a thread about it! I was hoping for say someone that knows the menu options and actually has an H4n to reply. that would be far more helpful.

My guess is maybe the levels are set incorrectly in firmware or its a bug of some sort. There does not seem to be away to set the levels independently for the on board mics, if there is, that is exactly what would help here, if you know how to do that please let me know. Maybe its not possible with the version it comes with out of the box because RICK R says that in the latest firmware i can set the levels for the on board mics interdependently? I will check this out asap. Thanks a lot! any more suggestions are appreciated but please only people that have actually used this device before or have one... thanks.
