Zoom H4n Recorder

Is it anyhow possible to add the Zoom recorder directly into channel 1 or 2, instead of recording external, so i dont have to sync... I buyed a XLR caple with same head (think 'male' connection) in both side of the caple... Still havent learned the advanced menu of h4n yet..

That could be really nice if possible..

Thanks

Theison,
??? Can you re-state your question, and be more specific.
Are you stating you would like to 'split' the mic into more to both the camera and recorder... or, feed both channels 1 and 2 on the Zoom from the same microphone?

I think he's referring to using the outputs of the H4n into the camera, using the H4n as a mixer/preamp.

Yes, it can be done. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a dedicated output, instead it is combined into the headphone out socket (I donät know it there are any menu options regarding this). So you have to go 1/8" out, and depending on your camera inputs you may need an adapter. This means you must monitor from the camera (which you should do anyway if that is your primary storage). I don't know if the headphone out in the zoom adds some noise to the signal - try it out.

You can take the headphone out and use it in the mic in (1/8male to 1/8male cable), but the signal doesn't match so you're going to introduce a lot of noise. I had a client still use the single system sound, but it wasn't very good. I'd recommend against it. I believe there are adapters you can purchase to reduce the headphone signal to mic level.

+1 Placeslost. You need a cable with a pad in it (roughly 40 db pad). The mic in is looking for a mic level signal, while the zoom is outputting a headphone signal (very hot!). Trimming it down a bit using the pad should do the trick. Remote Audio sells the cable through a variety of dealers. Part is REM CAPFTPAD
