Anybody using the Zoom H4n for wedding toast with a feed out from the DJ's
audio system? If so, are you using an attenuator? Last week was the first time
the signal was too hot going into my Zoom. Anyone else having this issue and if so
how are you dealing with it. Tahnks
Exactly, the H4N only has mic inputs so you need a pad. If the DJ can offer an adjustable output, you can make sure its low enough that the H4N wont clip. Sometimes, instead of a pad, i'll put a mixpre-d in front of the H4N to convert the line level to mic level.
The H4n XLR input is mic level, but the 1/4" is consumer line level. An XLR to 1/4" cable (correctly wired), and an adjustable pad work well to get line level into H4n. AFAIK this also avoids the H4n mic preamp which is supposedly not that great
