Zoom H4n 1/4-20 issues

I just got a Zoom H4n the other day and have been loving it so far but I seem to have hit a pretty big issue.
I don't know if this is a problem with my unit in particular or if this is a known problem, but it seems like the 1/4-20 thread is a bit too short.
I first noticed it when I went to attach the unit to a monopod and it wouldn't fit securely. There's about a 1-2mm sized gap in between the H4n and the mounting plate. With the H4n not secure, it just swings around on top of the mount. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

I've tried 4 other 1/4-20 mounts/quick plates that I own (all various brands) and it only fits securely on 2 out of 5 of them.
I took a flashlight to it and compared the sizes of the 1/4-20 slots to those of my t3i and my old DR-07 recorder and it seems that the H4n's 1/4-20 slot is significantly shorter than those on my other devices.

Since I don't have another H4n to compare mine with, I'm a bit worried that my unit might be messed up, though I'm not too sure how it's possible to mess up a 1/4-20 slot.

Has anyone heard of or experienced this problem for themselves?

EDIT - Upon further inspection, I think I see the problem.
The H4n's 1/4-20 slot has a bit of a bump around it, so it's not flush with the back of device.
Do all H4ns have this?

I guess I'll just have to use a different solution to mount it instead of using plates.

Yes, it is shorter, due to the electronics being close to the case. I get about 4 threads in before it bottoms out.

Solution: Shorter screw (just a trip to Home Depot/Lowe's) or shim with washer (buy at same place). If you are mounting on a camera plate, and you opt to replace the screw, get a low profile head on the screw, or find a way to grind down the top of the head so it has clearance when remounting on the 'pod.
