Got a email today from B&H for a $200 discount on the Zoom F4.

https://link.bandh.com/YesConnect/H...pwUPMGaUepsq58jSBtBOdJrMIPb9eAL6m2SPh96E=.enc

The first $100 off is the typical “Instant Savings”, & the second $100 discount is also applied instantly, but requires the Promo Code (which is 15535343757788641).

Was not able to apply the Promo Code online, & had to call the store to get the deal.

Offer expires 11/20/18 11:59 EST

Imagine the deal means the F4n is in the works.

Their website is behaving inconsistently, I copied the code above, loaded the page link and it came up in my cart at $350.00 without me even applying or pasting the code? Unless this is something that Firefox Quantum on the Mac does automatically (pastes something you copied?)

Missed one spec that may lead to returning the F4...Consumer/Domestic Line Level output.

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...-field-mixer-feeding-line-level-into-a-camera

While not an issue for many users, not being able to feed my cameras a proper Line Level is non-starter for me.

Hopefully Zoom will release an updated F4 similarly to when they updated the F8 to the much improved F8n.

Minor correction. -10 is a "proper line level" it's just not a "proper" balanced line level, it's a very common unbalanced line level.
If you are dealing with higher end cameras it is probably an issue since they probably are looking for a balanced +4 line in.

Though, if you are using the F4 tracks for post and the camera feed is only a guide track then I believe you can trim down the output to mic level and feed that to the camera. Compromises the camera audio a bit but if you are not going to use it...

It's on sale for $450, not $350.

Still a good deal. I made the right choice with that one.

The "nicer" answer is that yes it is on sale for $450, but the coupon that was linked in the original post gets you an additional $100 off. He did explain it in the post.

And I thought US$350 for a secondhand Zoom F4 I've been seeing on eBay was crazy cheap.

Imagine the deal means the F4n is in the works.

Hope that means a firmware update with the F4n goodies is also coming for the F4 a few months after the F4n is released... I want automix / advanced hybrid limiters / better headphone preamp on my F4 with the F8 v5 style firmware update!!

BTW I think the code was not ment to be shared, but B&H when I chatted with them gave me a new code that was the same discount. It's been on my list and for $350...

The irony of moving to Motown is that in the Bay Area I had a number of local pro shops and now I have none. I probably could have had a local shop match the deal. So while I will always advocate for buying local it's not always possible and B&H is as close as you get to good local service. Much better that the other big players (GC, MF, etc.). Better service better support and sales people who generally know what they are talking about. Now the pro dealers are a step up in knowledge and are the place to go if you are buying used. But in that grey area between big chain and specialized pro shops B&H are really good.

Not an ad I just have had really consistently good experiences with them, and I did visit the actual store once and talked to the folks behind the counter.

I was quite surprised at the heft of the box. The F4 seems heavier than the Marantz 671, though smaller.

Not even close to a review but the MixPre works well for the 5/6 inputs, so I have 6 mic ins...

The firmware was 1.0... So I updated to 2.0, which is current. I didn't have on hand any "approved" SD cards but a pair I used with the T2i passed all the tests.

I'll post a real review after I have used it a bit. Right off the bat I wish it was a bit bigger. The 671 is a really nice form factor, but the F4 is OK.

The Zoom F series is indeed compact but robustly solidly built strong.

I liked using the Zoom EXH-6 with my F4

I thought about that but it would put the levels and the jacks in a basically unusable location for me. And of course I already had the MixPre.

This is also I realized today the first digital recorder I have owned that has no digital ins or outs. Noth that I have really used them since everything went file based but interesting.

Though I guess technically the USB port kind of fills that function, as long as you are not connecting to older equipment. And the DR40 may not have regular digital i/o don't think I have ever checked. But again I'm trying to think of what I would use it for these days?

b&h presently has the zoom f4 selling for $350 without any codes.

i bought it.

i am coming from a tascam dr60mk1 so i'm hoping the zoom f4 will be a step up in audio quality.

i did find the tascam good enough for many of the tasks i needed it to perform.

for the money-not much!-i thought the tascam dr60 was fine.

i am hoping the usability of the zoom f4 will not be an issue.

i have upcoming a series of talking head interviews that is a omb effort with the hope of the zoom f4 interfacing easily with a canon dslr's audio in.

i will also be recording to an sd card so synching should be easier.

thumbs up.
