Zoom F4 in the Deal Zone

I owned the F4 since way back when they first came out. Has a big game changer for me to use a F4 coming from a heavy Sound Devices 552 / Tascam DR680 combo that I started out on.

Feel like the F4 came along just at the perfect moment for my career and progression. I've done 4 full feature films with it, and many many many many MANY more other projects! I'd happily choose an F4 every time over an MixPre recorder (except perhaps the MixPre10T).

Was seriously thinking about making the big leap to say a 633 or a Nomad etc (or give that MixPre10T a serious look?? Maybe, I'm not too excited by it)

But then the F8n got its sneak peak announcement at NAB so thought I'd wait and see for that, and as we learned more about it I put in the pre order and I got the first F8n in my entire country! Still the only F8n in New Zealand.

So the F8n will keep me happy for the next year or three, while I wait for perhaps the next generation of the Sound Devices 6 series? I'd like to see say a "664 mk2".

How does the "look ahead" feature to prevent clipping work on the F8N?

It works. Although to be honest with the dual approach of the existing hybrid limiters in the F4 + a boom safety track, then I never had any real issues with clipping on the Zoom F4. So having further improved limiters in the F8n is just extra gravy on top!
