zombie music video

Im in the pre-production stages for my second music video which im shooting in a few months. The song is performed by an electronic band and the song is quite industrial and harsh.

Concept:

To imitate a zombie movie in the music video. The band is getting ready to perform in a small club setting in front of a label executive who is still deciding if he should sign them. As one of the band members prepares in a bathroom, he is interrupted and attacked by a zombie. The zombie bites him and the shortly after - the show begins. Now Im planning on doing this in a more typical style - and very cinematic. The band will be performing in front of a crowd, and as the song progresses, the one bandmember is trying to hold back the zombie inside of him. As the band is performing id like to have some sort of side story going on. I had in mind something like the zombie population is spreading and kind of show people being attacked in small encounters - and possibly by the end, the whole audience is zombified. heh, not sure how it would end but the band liked the idea of just one of them getting out alive.

Lots of more independent music video's ive been watching recently, grab my attention for the first 30 seconds, then dont change at all, and bore me very fast. I really want to plan this video so that I dont run into that problem.

Pretty much at this point all im looking for are suggestions or ideas on how i can make this badass video!

Re: zombie music video

How about cutting back and forth between the band member getting attacked and the rest of the band playing and then wondering where the heck he is. Have something unique about the zombie, like a medallion or something he wears that stands out.

Don't show the outcome of the zombie/band member battle but instead have the band member finally come out as if nothing happened. Maybe, simply adjusting some clothes.

Then he jumps right in to the show and really tears it up. Building up and up and just raging, like an animal, on fire, etc.. The audience builds up with the frenzy.

At the end of the show he looks down at the label exec and spots the same medallion/item that the zombie in the bathroom was wearing. He reaches into his shirt and pulls out a chain with the same medallion. They both acknoweldge each other with evil grins. Then the band member, after seeing the label exec is a zombie, notices the members of the audience are pulling out their chains/medallions and holding them up, extended towards him in honor, etc..

Heh, side thought, these medallions could become trademarks of the band that they could sell at their concerts.

Just an idea you can play with. Also, doesn't require all the extra work of showing additional zombie attacks.

Cheers!

Nice story idea, Hans! I could actually picture the medallion scene(s) while I was reading your post. It's kind of campy but hell, whatever works, right? I liked your idea so much I just read the post again.

What do you think, Michael?

Re: zombie music video

This sounds like a great idea as I am a sucker for the genre and you are correct, the majority of music videos are the same thing over and over. How about starting it off with this gritty, 70's looking grain and saturation. Almost a quasi Super 8 or 16mm feel?

I'd run out and rent Dawn of the Dead or go see Saun of the Dead for some notes and homage ideas.

Hey, thanks for noticing!

I had forgotten about this post. I wonder if Michael ever got a chance to read it.

Thanks! So would I.

But, I wonder if this idea is just going to die?

Hey, it's an idea up for grabs. Who wants to take my idea and run with it? Anyone got a band that needs a concept.

John H. - You like the Zombie stuff. How about you? :D

Re: zombie music video

yeah i dunno. someone might do it.

at some point soon hopefully i want to do a first person shooter style music video with zombies. mount the camera to the barrel of a shot gun and have a bunch of people made up like zombies. then go around blasting them to bits. do all the blood and guts later in cg. build in some story like maybe the main dude has tosave some chick, but just as hes about to get close a zombie busts out from behind some building and kills his ass. maybe it could start over again at the begining and the dude gets a little further each time, but never makes it, and runs out of lives and the video endds with game over. it would be fun i think. it would have that headup display like vidoe games have. life meter...ammo....a little map that movies around with his location blinking on it...shite like that....
