Zenbook / Ultrabook trans. clips to hard drive and the occational quick edit ???

Anyone using an ultra light zenbook or ultrabook type laptop to transfer files from SD and a CF card reader to hard drives? I would also want to run the occational quick edit when on the road with Movie Studio 12.

I'd be currious to know what kind of transfer rate one could expect through USB3 from 1000x CF cards/reader to an external harddrive? Working on the concept for a 1DC 4k project and I'll need to get lots of data off the cards as quickly as possible.

Cheers,
Pete

I ended up getting an Asus Zenbook UX31a (13.3", i5, 128gig ssd, 4 gig ram, 1920x1080 display). Works quite nicely! Has two USB3.0 ports and an SDHC card slot. Don't have a CF card reader or have I rented the 1DC yet, so can't confirm how quickly it transfers that data. Getting 28 - 29 mb/s transfers from a SanDisk U1 Extreme Pro SD card to a WD My Passport 1T USB3 drive. Seems to be pretty respectable transfer rate for an $80 hard drive. It's not the fastest machine for rendering 25 mbps Sony AVC mp4's in Movie Studio 12, but for quick edits on the road it should be quite sufficient.

Video playback of Canon dslr footage at 50-60 mbps is perfectly smooth and simply stunning on that little screen. If you need something to show clients your work, this thing is incredible !!!

Just thought I'd post up my experience in case anyone else was thinking along the same lines.

Cheers,
Pete

Pete, thx a bunch for sharing this. I've been looking for portable editing capability and have been debating between a more robust "workstation" laptop (but don't really care to lug the extra weight) or an high-spec ultrabook. Good to know the UX31a can handle this (was thinking of the UX301/2 or HPZBook 14).
