zeiss primes or 25-250 cooke zoom

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure i this topic belongs in the DVX section but i'll explain...
I have a DVX with a mini 35 mount... and with that i also have the new mod which allows for me to shoot Uncompressed, Full Bandwidth RGB (4:4:4)...

now my dilemma is what kind of lenses to get...

I understand the functionality of getting prime lenses ( lower T stops and depth of feild versatility etc etc) especially a set of zeiss mk II primes, but if i was ONLY going to shoot for TELEVISION, say (commercials or music videos for eg) then should the cooke 25-250 zoom suffice ?

I mean if i was shooting to blowup to 35mm then yes i understand the need for the primes... but uncompressed with a cooke zoom?....anybody has had any experience with the cooke zooms?...

Any suggestions?...

From what I remember, Cooke lenses tend to be a little softer on average. The thing to consider is that the MK II primes are bayonet mount. It's an older kind of mount, and most cine lens adapters are pin-lock style, so make sure your adapter can accept it.

a lens repair guy i know had been able to change the bayonet to a Pl mount...so it is supported by the adapter...

even though the lenses in the cooke are top quality you say stick with the prmes huh?.....even though it's staying to television and not blowup to 35mm...

It depends on what you're shooting. A lot of DP's I know use Cooke lenses when they're shooting dramatic scenes with actors. They use the Zeiss lenses to achieve sharper picture quality for exteriors, greenscreen work, and second unit technical stuff.
