Lusting over this wide angle lens. Will use it with my trusted Panasonic HPX172 +SGBlade adapter ( Nikon Mount ) I own another prime 105mm, excellent for Macro. This 18mm Zeiss will be mostly for Wide Angle scenes, landscape and nature scenes, context scenes and the like.
The crop factor on the HPX means I won't get the full benefit of this lens, but it still seems like the way to go. I like primes, and need a wide angle. 85mm and 50mm Zeiss primes seem easy to hire ( and even borrow ) but really wide angles and long telephoto lenses are almost impossible to find locally.

My other more affordable alternative for Zeiss wide angle is the
Zeiss Distagon 35mm T* f/2 ZE Lens Nikon

I haven't used the 18mm f/3.5 myself so I can't comment on it directly, but I've heard nothing but tales of woe from those who've used the 18mm T/3.6 CP.2 that's based on the same glass. So I'd suggest doing some fairly thorough investigation before putting your money down on it.

The 35mm is a great lens, but it's only a medium-wide on fuil-frame formats, so you will probably want something wider than that.

A middle ground may be the Zeiss 21mm. It has a very good reputation, and users seem to rave about the results.
If there is an equipment rental place where you live, you may get one for a day and try it (?). But a Google search about tests and users' comment should already give you an idea.
