Hi Guys,

We recently put together a comparison test between the Zeiss CP.2s and the Sony PL Primes that shipped with the F3. You can see the full review at our shiny new blog 'The Forge': http://www.dreamsmiths.com.au/blog/

If you're in the market for affordable PL glass, it might be worth a look-see.

Wanna thank you for doing a review where there's an actual conclusion from the reviewers pov. Far too often people end up saying "judge for yourselves", like they are affraid they might get a bad standing with someone.

It was very informative. Maybe you could be persuaded to do the same once the new Sony PLs come out? Would be interesting to see how they fare against the CP.2s

Cheers! When the new Sonys are out we'll definitely try and get our greedy little hands on them.

good comparison and nice work.

what I really need is a Nikon AI to ZF.2 comparison , I haven't been able to find anything like this online. I wonder how they really compare.,

Are there any rental houses in Toronto that stock cinevised ZF sets Dennis? If so, you could probably get them to agree to you shooting a test between their lenses and your own if you've got a project you're considering them for.

Alternatively, arrange the comparison with a set of CP.2s (which rental places will definitely have). The Compact Primes have a 14-blade aperture (compared to 9-blade on the ZFs) so you can't use them to judge out of focus blur compared to the Nikons. But the general look, sharpness and flare characteristics of the CP.2s should be basically the same as the ZFs.

All my stills gear is Nikon, and I love my Nikkor glass, but for stills work I always dreamed and drooled over the Zeiss primes (as most do), the Zeiss glass has a look that 'pops' more than the Nikkor lenses do IMO.

If I ever have some cash burning a hole in my pocket, I'll probably get Nikon mounts for CP.2s so that I can shoot stills with them.

Not sure if you already thought of this, but what if someone has earphones on, and they were listening to a song played at a certain volume, and then they play your video which has a very interesting and macho sound accompanying it. What are they supposed to do with the blood and brain matter trickling from their ears? I mean, just suppose someone was silly enough to not lower the volume every time they played a new video.

Also, like your lens test. I like these dry ones.

Moist towelettes work best I find, if the blood dries at all, a little bit of saliva will sort it out.

And sorry about that, sound levels seemed equalised on my system.

Hahaha!
No worries.
