I wanted to order a Zacuto Follow Focus, but i noticed they have a .8 wide pitch gear as an accessory that is described as for use with stills SLR lenses. Does the standard Zacuto FF not operate with SLR lenses as standard?
It depends what they mean by 0.8. 0.8mod is the metric pitch measurement and is the same as 32p, so if it is 0.8mod gear pitch, then it will mesh fine with any SLR lens that has a standard follow focus lens ring on it, like a redrock ring, SGfollow focus, Indifocus ring etc.
If it means 0.8 as something else, like 0.8 inches wide, it might be saying that the gear is wide enough to accomodate for some movment of the lens gear, as some SLR lenses are built in such a way that the lens ring moves in and out as the lens is focused.
Either way you will need 35p/0.8mod gear rings to go on the lens.
The Indifocus lens gears are not 0.8 pitch. The indifocus comes with two FF gears - 0.8 for use with standard lenses, as well as another gear that works with their proprietary lens gears.
