Has anyone purchased gear from Zacuto? How reliable are their products and service? Are they a certified DVX seller?

Also, I see they have announced a unique solution to the 35mm adaptor.

Can someone smarter than I (BARRY) please tell me if what they have proposed is a viable solution. In short, do you think it will work....work well....be spectacular, etc. Please advice as I do not totally understand the technical aspect of their design.

I know all about the RED, so please dont leave comments about that camera in comparison to the Zacuto product. Unfortunately, I have to spend the money in the next 3 weeks. Until another large batch of federal funds come in, I will have to stick with the DVX and a 35mm adaptor solution.

it seems the Zacuto setup is going to be really high end users only. And at that price, id rather invest in a RED or a FULLY LOADED HVX system. Unless of course you have 12 to 15 grand to spend on this. I dont see any option for using SLR lenses like a NIKON mount or a CANON mount.

I think the Brevis or the M2 would be your best bet. If you go with the M2, you can get the rails and base system from them in a bundle, but you will have to wait about 1 or 2 months. Maybe you can get one from the marketplace here.

Contact brevis (i dont know any contact info) and see what the wait time is for this, and if they offere a support system for it.
 
Um... odd. I don't know how this could work. They specifically say they're not rephotographing off of some sort of ground glass system.

If they want to send one for testing I'd be glad to experiment with it. I don't know if they've managed to perfect some sort of aerial focus system or what.

They use a different corrective lens system between the lens and adapter. So there a different adapter for a 50mm lens and another one you gotta put on for an 85mm lens and so on. Or something like that.

But yeah, Zacuto has great products. I'd say they have the best rails system ever. I have the baseplate system and it rocks. I've also ordered a Brevis. I'm in the current run of orders which is estimated to be done in 2 1/2 weeks. I'm excited! :D

I mean really, Barry would normally tell us how the optical coupler must be doing a photkinetic tranformation of the negitive photons that optically match the HVX's sensor. Then he would stop there and we would all be nodding like we understood what he said.
