Zach Braff takes his 'Garden State' follow-up to Kickstarter

I say let known artists be able to choose a lesser known kickstarter to piggy back onto theirs. Say 5-10 percent of donations going to the other project. Would be voluntary of course, but maybe high profile people like Zack wouldn't get so much flack this way.

Considering his Kickstarter is currently at the $2.5 million dollar mark, I don't think he cares about the "flack".

I sure wouldn't.

There are no rules against it so WTF. If his or Veronica Mars or other fans want to support celebs via this platform WHO CARES. I think big names and projects actually make more people aware of the platform and may bring in a few more eyes to look around. Maybe they will see you project and help... maybe not.

I sure wish people would be as passionate towards the environment or human rights.

Yes, because money is all that matters.

We're not talking about Braff giving up friends or family in pursuit of money, we're talking about someone who has people who are against what he is doing, but seems to have even more who are FOR what he is doing that he's been able to raise $2.5 million.

Do you really care what certain people think of you if what you bring to the table is worth that kind of money to others?

Robert Downey Jr. joked he wanted $200,000 for his new Iron Man 4 Kickstarter Campaign on Jimmy Kimmel.

Its a joke now, but how long before this becomes the norm, I wonder?

They're kind of doing this already, with Kicking it Forward: http://kickingitforward.org

Obviously, you have to opt in to doing this, but the mechanism is there.

Why? There is no valid reason for making Veronica Mars or Zach Braff give up part of their money they are using to make a movie to someone else. IN that case, make everyone making a 5,000 dollar kickstarter give money to those with a 500 dollar kickstarter. What's the difference? You're just saying, they have more money than me, so give me some!

As I have stated before Kickstarter is about pre-sales. Read it from kickstarter, they don't say the word, but it's pretty clear:

Kickstarter is a new way for creators to bring their projects to life. Not through commerce, charity, or investment — through a new model powered by a willing audience. The Veronica Mars and Zach Braff projects offered backers tickets to the premiere, cameos in the movie, access to the creative process, and other experiences in exchange for pledges. Fans were thrilled, and 100,000 people jumped on board.

Basically those against Braff and Veronica Mars are saying if you buy the latest Spiderman DVD that will take away the money you would have spent on Broke Back Mountain!

Yea, I'm going to go out on a limb and say these are different audiences and one purchase doesn't take away from the other.

YOU have to create some fans like Braff did, then YOUR fans will give YOU money. Zach Braff's fans were never going to give you money if they arent' also YOUR fans.

For low budget movies like the VM and Zach Braff projects I hope it does soon become the norm.

2-3 million seems to be very doable for small budget movies with well known stars attatched. I'm not sure you can pre-sell enough DVD's and "rewards" or "perks" to produce the next Iron Man, but if you could that's fine too.

I mean are are really arguing about non-issue.

Our arguments won't really make people more conscious. Fame is fame. A sugary soft drink has more likes on facebook than all of us - humans - put together. It's surreal but that's how it will be.

When did I say they should MAKE anyone do anything? I said as an OPTION. If they wanted to. And they could pick the project. If they don't want to. They don't...I'm sure people like Zack could do without the bad press. Hey, they may even have a kind heart and realize, yes, I have an advantage because of my celebrity, so why don't I spread some of that around to do good?

Yeah, the "bad press" that netted him $2.5 million dollars in Kickstarter donations.

What explicitely do you think is going to happen to him from this "bad press"?

If he didn't care about the controversy why did he host a Q&A about it?...I'm not saying what Zach did is some great injustice that needs to be righted. I'm saying if people like him want to be on Kickstarter and not get criticized for some perceived abuse, this would be a way to remedy that.

It's called "monopolizing on attention being directed your way."

I'm saying if people like him want to be on Kickstarter and not get criticized for some perceived abuse, this would be a way to remedy that.

Again, why would they care if they're being successful at it? What is going to happen to Zach Braff because he violated some sacred oath or something and put his project on Kickstarter? Apparently, the answer is "nothing".

Because some people aren't unfeeling sociopaths. They actually care what other people think of them. And they might actually WANT to help out other projects if the option was available.

What are you talking about? I gave $200 to this kickstarter. How exactly am I trying to shut down this thread?
