YouTube makes video darken?

Seems like YouTube makes my videos darker after being uploaded. Have anyone else seen this? What do you do to counter it? Is the same thing happening on vimeo?

I discovered this about a year and a half ago. I export a master file and then use Compressor to make the h.264 that I upload. The YouTube result is noticeably darker than the h.264 or the original. I tried gamma changes when creating the h.264, but was not satisfied with the lack of control. I even tried just grading the whole video lighter to compensate, but that was also not satisfactory to me.

I ended up switching to Vimeo. I find it also darkens the video, but it's barely perceptible and much better than YouTube.

On the rare occasions when I have to use YouTube for some reason, I just raise the gamma in FCPX by lifting the mid-range a bit more than I would prefer and hope for the best.

Yeah, I use vimeo mainly for my own things, but there's more people on YouTube and many clients only have YouTube accounts etc... Also trying with raising the mid tones a bit.
