Youtube Compression settings?

This is for Canon Dslr Footage recorded at 1080p 24fps.

Vimeo states to restrict data to 5000 and export as 1280x720. I have been looking everywhere and I cannot find the recommended settings for youtube.

Can anyone help me out, thanks?

Youtube 1080p@30fps, 8000kbps max bitrate. However you can give it a higher bitrate and it'll compress it down itself, it just means your upload will take longer.

I recorded the footage at 24fps why would I convert it to 30fps? Secondly to my understanding Vimeo allows of up to 5000kbps are you saying that youtube allows for higher bitrate?

I upload all my vids to youtube with a file that is 720p at 24fps encoded to h264 at 4mbps and saved to an mp4 (not mov)

p.s. while Vimeo does state that they want a 5000 kbps h.264, I've found that you can actually go much higher if you want and whatever optimization is happening on the server end doesn't kill your video quality.

1080p@30fps is the highest fps for 1080p you can put on youtube. 24fps will work fine. You can also upload larger resolutions such as 2k and 4k, and they'll be given the "original" video size option when you play the video back.

Also, Vimeo allows uploading videos at much higher data rate than 5000kbps, however they are optimised to that for playing back via the flash player. You can allow users to download the original uploaded file if you so choose.

720p is sufficient. I use to do 1080 but I think it's overkill on youtube and it tends to make your footage lag on many computers.
