Your website

I need to get a webpage up and going for a videography business kicking off next month in Michigan. I just have a few questions because when it comes to html and website I am pretty useless.

How do you go about hosting your footage online?

Has anybody used a pre-fabricated website template then just uploaded it through dreamweaver with your information (like those on sunnyflash.com , etc...)?

Basically, how did you get your website?!

Thanks
Terry

i'm in the process of getting mine right now. I paid for hosting services with globat.com and then my i gave my designer the ftp username and password so she can upload my webpage once its finished.

hmm, I'm also in the process of doing one of my webpages, though I've coded in raw HTML with CSS and javascript in notepad, don;t know if I should host it or build my owner server (I've got a a few PCs laying about, would be fun to set up a whole apache server in my basement),,

So yea in short, you can use many, many, many video hosts available online (shop around for the best deal) OR set your own server (but bandwith will be limited, security issues, backup will be something you need to deal yourself)

EDIT:// you could link from youtube, quality will be very bad, I've heard and seen good things with Vimo (however that is spelt,) but I'm not sure if you can embed it on your own webpages (the videos)

hey here's mine: www.raisethesteaks.com

It's actually tempalte based with a few PHP and javascript tweaks on my end, but you don't need to do that. You can buy the template at http://flashnifties.com for about 40 bucks.

Note, you will have to have basic FTP/Hosting knowledge, as well as a program to transcode your video to FLV (FLash Video). I have Flash CS3 which comes with the flash video converter, it's basically an easy drag and drop process with quicktimes.

The bonus is, no coding, just drag and drop your movies into folders and the template builds and structures the gallery. This is ideal if you plan on updating your page a lot like I do.

Also, one snag I came into, if you host doesn't have FLV in the MIME content database of the backend, you'll have to add it to make your video play properly. Usually this is something tech support from your host can help you with.

All great suggestions.

Thats a good looking webpage. I have a very basic knowledge of web hosting and flash so hopefully it will run smooth.

Ryan and Kwan, thanks for the input!

Just so you know, everybody should really start coding in XHTML not HTML..... HTML is pretty much dead in the water. XHTML is a XML/HTML hybrid.... they're pretty much identical just the style of the opening html tags have been changed. But if you do use HTML make sure you aren't using deprecated tags.

My site is not much at all. What I have done is combine the services of Blogger and Google Page Creator to create a temporary website/blog until I can get something more concrete. To check it out click on the CPP icon in my signature.*
