Your Opinion, please.

go for the rode ntg1 $250 (or audio technica 875r) with a dead cat $40 and an sm3 shockmount $40 for the same money. Not a real zepplin, but works well in many light wind situations.

Add the new Sennheiser MKE 400 to the list if you want a cheapie - there is also a mini basket windshield with hairy cover available as an accessory if you want it.

(PS - I hope this reads OK - I'm having a nice evening with a good bottle of Merlot)

This mic doesn't have XLR connections, so it would only be reccommended for people who have camears with consumer mini inputs. It is also not very ideal since it mounts on the camera and that is the last place you want the mic. I am sure that John knows this, but some readers may not.

Don't most cameras under $8k or so have mini inputs?

NO, under $1K yes. DVX100, why dose that name sound familiar???? has XLR and ran around $4K. Not sure where the crossover point is but somewhere between $1K & $4K. And if you use a preamp (something I always recommend anyway) you can adapt down to whatever consumer connector the camera has.

That's odd, because the FX1 has the 1/8" plug (no xlr) and runs a little higher than 1k. I'm not being difficult, just trying to learn, and I know there's a ton of XLR-1/8" adapters out there for cameras above the consumer range. And I agree totally about the pre-amp, even if I shot with a camera with XLR in I'd probably use one anyway, they're just so handy!

Not trying to be picky but did you read my post? I said the switch over was somewhere between $1K and $4K. The post I was responding to said you needed to get to $8K to get XLR connections. The FX1 doesn't have XLR's and it has gotten some bad press on that. It's sort of the exception but it is still under $4K.

I must have read it wrong, my apologies. Basically I thought you were saying the exact opposite. That's why I love this forum. New knowledge everyday. Cheers
