Your name vs. Company name

I'm barely starting to get into the competitive world of music video/commercial/independent film making. And as I'm building up my reel-work, I'm trying to find the best way to market myself. I'm planning to get a website up and running as soon as I get finish some of the next few projects i've been working on (so I'll have some work to show).

I've been taking mental notes from what I see from the professionals here on dvxuser. I see some who market themselves (their full name) as the artist (mainly DP's that shoot with their own equipment, but also produce their projects). Then I see others where they have a company name like "_______ Productions" or "_________ Music Videos".

I'm trying to figure out which is a better route to take? Coming up with a company, or using your own name. I feel like some clients would be more likely to seek a company over a name, feeling that a company sounds more like a reputable crew. But on the other hand, I think some clients might seek a name over a company, feeling that an individual would have his/her own creative way of working.

Can anyone give me some personal advice as to which way is better for business?

I'm no expert in this, but usually if you work alone it would be your name, whereas if you're a team you have a company name.

Although individually, it's my personal opinion that they would take you more seriously with a company name as opposed to your own.

It depends on how you want to get hired. If you're looking to be a gun-for-hire and get hired for projects by production companies, go with your own name. If you're intending to be a production company, pick a company name even if it's just you. Or go with both and be Mr. Brycel Productions.
