I'm working on my reel. I dont have tons of projects since I'm so new to video work. I just wanted to see what everyone thought. This isn't done, please keep that in mind. Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to hearing your comments.

Re: Your help please

Some cool looking stuff. Especially the shots in the cornfield.

What are you a director? Editor? Shooter? I just didn't know what this was a reel for and I was curious. Maybe you ought to get a title card on there.

Re: Your help please

I agree -- some of the stuff is really quite good, but I don't know what it is I'm looking at -- do you do commercials? Infomercials? Are you showing stuff which is an example of your lighting skills?

Make it easy for the viewer, hone in on your target market. If you do commercials, I wouldn't do a montage-style reel, I'd just show some dynamite commercials. If you're showing your cinematography skills, a montage reel might be fine but be sure to spell it out. The material on the reel looks pretty good, now we just need to know what it means to us as viewers.

Re: Your help please

Thank you.  I'm doing everything with what your seeing.  I'm mostly looking to do music video work.  I will post the final reel when its done.  Most of the time my clients know what they are going to see before I send them my stuff.

Re: Your help please

If you're aiming to do music videos, and you're sending the reel out to music video clients, then put music videos on the reel. A montage style of reel wouldn't be as effective as something that showed a few 10- or 20-second excerpts of actual videos (including band name, label name, etc).

Just a suggestion...

Re: Your help please

I would totally do that. But I'm brand new, I haven't done any music videos yet. So, This is my only way to express my skills.

Re: Your help please

Mike,

Cool stuff. I attended a demo seminar at the expo and they said the same thing Barry said, do specific demos. That's what I am working on. I am putting one together for Weddings, I am working on some music videos, and I may do some commercial stuff.

The guy even recommended having several business cards. He was saying most of the people who hire, are looking for people for specific jobs ie. cameraman, director, producer, editor, cinematographer, etc. Even though you may be able to do all of those, they don't like to see a Jack-of-all-trades, they think you are Master of none.

I would say do several demos doing specific things, different styles, etc.
