Alright so Ive been hired by this company to run this new wakeboard site. Well The video player is terrible. I need to know if there is something im doing wrong or if there is any secrets any tricks anythingg. To make the compression better.

Here is the example video on the site with terrible compression

http://www.grindtv.com//video/wake/austinhair_09_winter_riding/#37620

and this is the ok quality on vimeo

http://www.vimeo.com/4841230

all the above videos were shot with hv30. I purchased a hvx200 a month ago.

They were shot in 720p/30p. Then downcompresed to have the 16x9 to help with quality some. Exported at the max settings with compressor H264 the quality is perfect on my computer as well. looks amazing. Ive seen alot of videos on vimeo that look amazing why am I getting such poor results with vimeo?

And I know the grindtv webplayer is terrible

Will the Hvx200 footage make that much of a difference?

Thanks alot for your timee

There are probably a hundred different variables for video compression, but it always boils down to file size vs quality,

Find out what bandwidth you have for this web video to play with, then we can go from there, we would need to carry out extensive parameter testing to get the best settings for that particular type of video shot.

There isn't a single silver bullet setting that works for every situation, there are good guidelines, ideally it requires alot of testing, that is how I tend to approach video compression (set > view >adjust >repeat)

In my experience throw as much data as you can for the upload. Get your video bit rate and size up near maximum upload parameters for your given service and let it compress from a HIGH quality master.
